I am religious to a degree, but certainly not in the radical sense that you describe. I don't hear this kind of thing in my church. I find the people and priests more gentle and compassionate towards others than this. There is never a mention of the fires of hell. Masses are calm and comforting, not obnoxious and demoralizing.

Unfortunately a lot of religious groups have gone the way of the extreme, instilling fear into people for no good reason. It is a shame what man has done to twist the basic principle and meaning of a Creator. Through senseless brainwashing a lot of damage can be done to the inner spirit of a person that is already inherently good to begin with.

It is because of this that many may feel that all religion is useless, and it would explain the decrease in church attendence throughout the years. I can understand it. But it is the fault of man, not the Creator or Source. Churches were once a place of worship and community, where people came together to share and feel connected. Not so much anymore.
