How about this? Has anyone been able to waken themselves out of a dream? I have several times. The most recent one was when I was being arrested for something for something I didn't do and as I was being put into the police car, I told myself that it is time to wake up to get out of the mess and it worked. I woke up and realized that it all was a dream and had a smile on my face and drifted off back to sleep.

It sounds like what you experienced may have been a form of lucid dreaming. You got an awareness of what was happening in your dream and had enough awareness to get yourself out of the dream. Lucid dreamers are often aware what is happening during their dreams and can change the action in their dreams through this awareness.
