all behind like a racer outpaces the turtles.

SERIOUSLY-30

By being seriously careful ,SAKKA!king of the gods attained his
supremacy.Always is carefulness praised by all.Always is carelesness blamed by all.

CONQUEROR-31

Enjoying the results of being both serious and meticously careful,
seeing acute and terrible danger in any even minor sign of slack carelessnes.the bhikkhu burns his way right through all obstructing
tters,be they mighty or minor.

SMELLING THE LIGHT

The bhikkhu who delights is carefulness and views with fear the danger of sloppy carelessnes just simply cannot fall away,
but is indeed quite near NIBBANA

CHAPTER III MIND-CITTA

JUMPING MONKEY-33

This flickering ,fleeting and fickle Mind,
difficult to guard ,hard to control are thoughts,the clever onetherefore makes the mind straight and stable just as a Fletcher line up an uneven arrow shaft.


SHAKING THE CHAIN -34

Like a fish hauled on land flutter and flaps all trembling ,exactly & even so do Mind when forced out of Mara's field of lusty fever.

TAMING-35

Advantageous is the taming of the thoughts ,which otherwise set
off suddenly,shifts and cross ,coming and going in all directions...the tamed & calmed Mind is therefore a b ringer of first Peace ,then BLISS.

I am surprised that this subject does not seem appealing to visitors.This is an important document left to us by the Master Gautama.This document is a Theravada version of the Dhammapada.
When one gets the original each verse is accomanied by an illustration.When I downloaded it and made a book out of it I was already at 107 pages,so I left he illustrations on the site .

Today we shall look at verses 36 37 38.

GUARDING-36Thoughts are of exceedingly subtle nature,hard to see,
invisible,untouchable,momentary,emerging &jumping when& wherever
they like! The clever one therefore observes and guards these ever
anging thoughts.Guarded thoughts brings Happiness!!!!

DAMPENING-37

Thoughts by themselves wander ,light as fantsies ,though still hidden in Mind.Those who subdue thoughts are freed from the bondage of temptation.


STEADYING-38

The one whose Mind is not steady,who does not know what is true Dharma ,whose faith waivers -such one never attains perfected INSIGHT

That is it for today.

Loong's comment: I cannot but wonder why when I read this the first time it was surely part chinese to me .Everything is NOW clear as water from a brook .
The key word is when One Or I understand what MIND...means!

NEITHER ATTRACTED NOR REPELLED FEERLESS-39

The one whose Mind is not drawn into any lust,whose Mind is
neither strained by any aversion ,whose Mind is both beyond Good and Evil,for such awakened one there is no Fear.

KNOWING TIME-40

Knowing this body to be fragile as a clay-pot,making this very thought firm as a city,one should attack MARA(evil) with this weapon of wisdom,
guard thereafter carefully what is conquered


THE ALTAR OF THE TEMPLE-41


Soon this body will fall to the ground ,rejected,without any
consciousness ,useless like a rotten log of wood...Why not finish this section with VERSES 42-43


MAKER OF CATASTROPHIES-42


Whatever an ennemy may do to an enemy,or whatever a hater might to
another blinded by hate,one's own Mind wrongly directed by false or Evil view,can indeed do to oneself ,yet even far much worse.


WONDER-43


Neither mother nor father ,nor any other family member can do you any better ,than a well directed Mind

WHO-44

Who will fully comprehend this earth-world together with the lower painful and higher divine worlds as well?Who will investigate all the 37 sublime Dhammas,even as an expert plucks delicate flowers.
Who?

BE BUDDHIST-45

The training disciple will conquer by full comprehension this,the lower and the divine worlds as well !!!!The training disciplewill directly experience these 37 states ,even as an expert enjoys a well-composed bouquet of flowers .

MOMENTARY-46

Whosoever knows this body to be as temporary as a bubble,as insubstantial as the mirror image,such one will break the flower tipped arrows of MARA and cannot be seen by this King of Death...


SURPRISE-47

Death carries off the man while distracted by gathering flowers of sensual pleasures exactly & even so as a great flood carries away a sleeping village.

SWEET AND SILENT-49

Harmless to the flower ,it scent & color the bee gathers its honey .Even & exactly so should the Wandering Bhikkhu visit the villages .

WRONG VS RIGHT ATTENTION-50

What others do,did,or left undone is irrelevent!Do not search after their faults,but rather look carefully upon own flaws and for whaat you yourself do,did or left undone...."

As the beautiful flower ,lovely both in color and scent ,
even & exactly so,is the well spoken true word ,fruitful for one who reflects and acts accordinglY

THE PRECIOUS POSSIBILITY-53


Just as one can make many varied bouquetsfram a single big bunch of flowers a mortal among the humans can make many kinds of merit by
various good deeds.

THE FAIRY FIELD-54

The scent of flowers does not diffuse against the wind,whether it is jasmine or incenseof sandalwood.The fragrance of good deed does however waft against the wind.The kindness of the good & pure perfumes all directions with this perfume of pure goodness.

Even in a heap of rubbish dumped on the road ,may the Lotus grow,with this sublime fragrance delighting the Mind.Even & exactly so,may the Noble Disciple of the Awakened ones shine forth his wisdom among the blinded mess of simple people."

LOONG-60

To those who did not know LOONG means dragon in chinese.

The only people that consider a dragon to be positive are the chinese ,to them it represents transformation and strenght.

"Long is samsara for the simpleton not knowing the Dhamma.
Long is the night for one who keeps Awake.
Long is the mile for one who is tired.
Long is the chain of rebirth for one who is unaware of the true Dhamma.(That was me alright)without knowing it I had chosen a name that would suit whom I was.

IDEAL SOLITUDE-61

Avoid going along with fools .Should one fail to find one better or
equal as companion,Then one one should continue this journey alone.There can be no friendship with fools.

ONE IS NOT ONE'S OWN-62

I have sons ,I have wealth,thinks this the fool unknowlingly causing himself worry.When he has not even a self of his own ,how much less then any soms ,and how much less then any stable wealth?


DISCOVERING THE TREASURE-63

The fool,who recognises his own foolishness,
thereby becomes wise.But the simpleton ,who deceives himself to be a wise one,is verily a fool."
