Well, I have a container filled with soil. Now, it has potatoes in it. Hopefully, by July we'll have new potatoes.

Connie, that sounds delicious! How deep is your container? Is it a half whiskey barrel or trash container or something like that.

It is a plastic storage tub with holes in the bottom. The tub is about 30 inches deep.

My all-time favorite way to plant potatoes is to spade up the ground, and put the potato pieces on top of the turned earth. Then, cover them with straw or hay to a depth of about a foot. The potatoes will grow into the hay and can be "picked" by sticking your hand in a pulling new potatoes off the root system. Our Kansas dirt is heavy with clay. We actually got more potatoes with this method than we did with planting and digging.

Connie, that is a very interesting idea - here in The Netherlands I think potatoes would grow well using your method.

I bought some "potato bags" this year and I'm growing 2 bunches of potatoes, put in 4 weeks apart. The potato bag is like a container, I think.

In Oregon, I grew potatoes in various sorts of containers and I also just noticed some growing from my compost pile-lol
