If you say a word or phrase to your bird each night as you cover their cage, that word or phrase will be the last stimulation of the day. Often, these words are easier for your bird to learn. For more on this topic, check out my most recent article, here:

I have a rescued Quaker, and he says a few words, which, from what I have read is rare. I would like to expand his vocabulary, but am a newbie to birds. Does anyone have experience with the videos available at www.birdtricks.com? Thanks for any guidance.

I subscribed to his videos for awhile but after some time felt they were more of a sales pitch. But it is good to check out what he's got to say and make the judgement for yourself.

I taught our cockatiel some words, and he's taught himself others. It's funny, sometimes when he thinks that I'm asleep, he'll say the words that he's learned on his own. He won't say them when we are in the room with him. Then, he only says words that I taught him. Strange and wonderful little guy!

I have a senegal parrot who's first words were "I Love You". I've been hooked ever since. Nothing like a bird perching on your shoulder and whispering sweet nothings in your ear!

We bought a tape that she never learned from, but instead she learned on her own. She says hello when the phone rings. She sneezes when I sneeze, she gargles when my husband gargles. She never talked to strangers, but now that she is getting older (15 years old) she is starting to show off more. What fun these birds can be...

Connie,
Birds often teach themselves words. I think it's funny he's saying those words when you're not in the room like it's a big secret or something. My macaw imitates my laugh too. He also makes kissing sounds that ... um .. sound like other bodily function sounds. LOL.

Carol,
My bird's first words were I LOVE YOU! It just melt your heart, doesn't it? His second words were GO POTTY!
