With the economy the way it is right now, alot of people have been able to find jobs using "unconventional" job searching methods.

And by this I mean, not the usual online job search sites.

Have you used any "unusual" job search methods to find a job?

Hi Phenix, I write for lots of freelance online business writing agencies on my site, but you have to be careful what you quote for jobs - some of the globalized economies offer their 'writing services' for next to nothing! Lowers the rate for the rest of us quality native speakers.

I agree, and I wonder how people can hire some of the writers they do. Sure, it's cheap, but it makes the website look cheap, too, which of course reflects on the product or service they're selling. I often wonder if the website owner's English isn't so hot, and maybe he doesn't realize how bad the writing is!

But I "regrouped" and became OPEN to other options.

The bottom line these days is all about making the "quick" cash (lol).

I am one of the long term unemployed. Here is something I will be begin doing in 2011. I am going to send self addressed post cards to organizations that I have an interest in obtaining a position with. I will include with it a letter explaining my interest in a position within their company. I will give them three options for returning the post card. They can put their contant information on it, put the contact information of someone that can help, or use dismissal. The challenge I think I will have with this is ensuring it gets to the hands of HR. Most larger organizations have a mail hub that opens all mail and then they image it. Any thoughts on how to overcome this challenge?

I would research the company and send the post card to a specific person within the company and I would exclude the letter and put the pertinent information about myself in the body of the post card with the options.

Sometimes less is best. In this case I think that getting the post card itself to a named emloyee would have a better chance of happening if it does not have anything attached to it.
