When the cost of my Solid gold dog food went way up overnight (during the gas crunch last summer) I tried Iams and my dogs started itching very badly. When gas prices went back down, my Solid gold price again went down but I decided I needed to buy it no matter what because my dogs do so well on it.

The Eagle Pack Holistic Select line is our favorite right now and our dog looks amazing on it. I looked at their website and the Anchovy, Sardine and Salmon Meal formula doesn't have 3 of the ingredients you listed as allergies, but it does have carrots. Here are the ingredients.

I read through the other comments and I was beginning to feel a very poor pet owner. Then I read Jodevizes message. I have 2 dogs, medium sized, nothing special other than they are my most special boys. From day one, after they left their mother's teats, would they touch tinned dog food. So, I cook for them. Offal, pork, beef, lamb, mutton, pasta, rice, hard bread, dog biscuits, old cheese. It might sound like they will anything...far from it. They want what they like at that moment. If they smell fried calamari, they want the heads. If I cook pork steaks, them also. WE eat as a family. Its so much easier too. When I want to give them something to eat quickly, I can open up a few tins of low fat corned beef or tuna. Their not fat, just intergrated family members.

when i trained and raced my greyhounds they were all fed on fresh food? lean beef minced with vegetables, i added a good stock cube and left the meat and veg to simmer for about 20 minutes. i then used to get loaves of uncut wheatgerm brown bread and score the crust and place it in a very hot oven for 3 minutes , when the meat and veg cooled right down i used to break the bread into decent size pieces and pour the stew over it and serve it to them.they would all get a digestive enzyme tablet after the meal and the dogs never ailed a thing and won loads of races. dogs with allergies benefit with digestive enzymes as they assist the pancreas and take the work load off it.

Thanks for the idea about the brown bread lawrence. I do feed my dogs fresh meat and veg but we add bought biscuits. The bread sounds like an alternative. Shall give that a try.

thanks linda for the reply. the brown bread is better than biscuits i think, we have a dobermann a staffy and two little poodles, and they get beef or chicken? none of them will eat dog food , excepting butchers choice in those little cartons, but its less costly if we buy beef and chicken from aldi or morrisons, and when you feed them with fresh food you dont get additives and preservatives like tinned food. the digestive enzymes are really good and keeps the dogs at the correct weight. if any dogs lose their appetites they are a must to start them eating again. regards lawrence.

from holland and barret or any other herbal shop linda they are about 5 but worth it you just get them for human consumption but can give them to your dogs they are the same tablets dogs have from the vets therefore you save cash from the herbalists. regards lawrence
