Tired of those painted doors? You can sand away the paint!

The sanding process involves multiple stages, alternating between mechanical and hand sanding; requiring time and patience. If you are sanding an exterior door, leave enough time to complete the sanding or you will have an exterior opening open overnight.

Hi Maureen, I've found if you're lucky enough to have real wood doors this is a great way to create a new look. Unfortunately most of the cabinets and doors made in the last 5 to 10 years is not wood, but MDF, or pressed cardboard. Even trying to fix these types of doors can be a nightmare as the material just crumbles or peels in layers. A great thing that I've found to add a new look and yet fit in with some decor styles is to visit a re-cycling depot where people have replaced good quality doors and cabinetry with brand new items and brought them to the recycling center. You can often find doors and cabinets that were never used at a fraction of the cost it would be for new! Sometimes still in its packaging or you might find one that might fit with the decor and style you need, and all it needs is just needs some refinishing to get rid of the paint color.

That is a wonderful idea and suggestion!! I am all for recycle of the old. I reused much of my home's materials when I renovated and I am also one who loves to go find those unwanted treasures like old furniture and remake them into something modern and full of life.

I agree the quality of today is not even close to the quality of yesterday. They are out there and you just need to do some research and spend a little time looking and the end results would be worth while.

Check out Habitat for Humanity's resale store. People donate their old cabinets, etc. when they renovate. H for H uses the funds for building new homes.

It is important that the entire list of interior painting ideas is put down on paper first. This would help you to understand better the areas that need special attention and you would be able to improvise on it and thus, create the desired effects. Thanks for sharing...
