I take website magazine and they recently had an article, which is online here about how Google is changing the way searches are done.

There's another article in the same issue that's also online about google's new "real time" search which will upend the seo world. Real time search results from blogs, facebook and places like Twitter, will be in the top spots, knocking other, older content to "below the fold". So if you enjoyed a top spot for a keyword term, you might not anymore.

To me this means that rather than focusing so much on seo, you'd have to also focus on your social networking.

Has anybody else read about this?

I don't see the value in searching social networking. It's a lot of nothing. You can search for what you want from the social networking site itself. My belief is that you can spread yourself so thin that after awhile nothing is relavent. I had a family forum awhile back and it was doing fine but then I decided to do the email thing. People began collecting the info via email and never visited the site and the forum is just about defunct. Between blogs, sites, web pages, and all the other available means of transmitting and sharing info, no one is a regular and I think you lose out.

I agree about social networking taking up time! I do keep up on several knitting forums tho to try and bring traffic to my knitting blog.

One thing I learned about the real time google searches is that you have to do the search and then click on "options" for up to date postings.

I do think tho that social networking is going to become more important for getting traffic to your blogs and websites.

well you know that is not the end of SEO since social media marketing is part of the SEO. But it is always changing, because the technology and the search engines changes very often.

I think google really loves anything new! The search engines love constantly updated content, for instance, which is one reason they love blogs.

You are right Boomergal, Google loves fresh, new content. I also agree with Angie that a great deal of social 'content' is a whole lot of noise.

So it will be interesting to see how the dust settles here. So far I am not seeing social content replacing articles in searches.

You value your privacy and won't answer most questionaires yet on FB or Twitter reveal all without hesitation. Too much information about a whole lot of nothing yet search engines love you for this. They scan your emails and search for certain words to then spam you. All emails are stored on servers forever. They then have all your private info. Read TOS for FB....your stuff is not your own even though you delete your personal content or account. I find this very scary. I also don't feel kids belong on FB or Twitter either. Internet predators watch for them.

Its very true that the real time search has added values to Google search. I watched a video which was stating that Real Time Search was getting feeds from twitter. I have a twitter account. I did one experiment over there.

And what I found was amazing. My tweet was crawled by googlebots in just 45 seconds. Even what I thought that it took me 45 seconds to search for my tweet in google, Google must have crawled it immediately.

That's an interesting note about Twitter. I use it to post links to new content and I also added a "Tweet me" button to my blog postings. This has helped me get more traffic.

I think it's very true that we can easily get overwhelmed these days by social media. I find myself signing up for newsletters and free seminars but don't have time to read them all.

Looks like social networking is the way to go for now> Even though I hate the lack of privacy in it.
