I'm at the point of wanting to completely change the decor of my house. I begin to wonder about using wall hangings as the main 'theme' in my living room. What do you think is the best size? How many hangings are too many? How many walls? I'm sure the questions could go on and on.

What do you use? And what do you think would be ideal?

I have 2 little quilts that hang in my sewing room. They are doll sized. One was a gift and the other is made up of old squares I had bought at my favorite thrift store and sewed together. I also have another little quilt made of more squares I rescued that is under my bunny in my bedroom that sits on a tall dresser. The granddaughters like to play with that little quilt when they play dolls. My mom has a few little wall hangings here and there. Dad built shelves to hang them and she had pretty stuff displayed above the hangings. I also have a picture that mom made five tiny log cabin quilt squares. It has a plaque under the squares that says she made it and it was made for her daughter Connie. She made 4 of them. My sister and me and my aunt and my mom all have one but the colors depend on your favorite colors. Mine is made of reproduction fabrics.

I would say do what you like! You are the one that has to be happy with it!

I thought of you the other day when I was vacumming thread off the floor under my sewing machine! There was lots of thread, I have been pretty busy!

Connie, thanks for your input. It give me some good ideas.

I haven't collected (or even looked closely at) wall hanging patterns so I don't have a good idea of what I'd like. I was not really interested before, but I'm really tired of what I have on my walls.

I haven't taken my sewing machine out after putting it away for the holidays at Thanksgiving time. But just today I stepped on a stick pen which was stuck in my carpeting. I wonder just how much I would pay to have a sewing room.

Happy Sewing.

My mom has a baby blanket that was my brothers that my great gramma made that she used to hang. She swaps them out. She and my Aunt made my gramma seasonal wall hangings and she changes them with the holidays and seasons. One my mom made was just beautiful. It was of roses that were paper pieced. I know it took her quite a while to finish that little gem!

Having a sewing room is really wonderful. Mine is really cramped right now as it has upstairs furniture and stuff in it. I am getting ready to paint upstairs and then we are getting new carpet and it will be so nice to have room to move around in my sewing room and not be wall to wall furniture!

Hi Granny H. I have quilts all over my walls in my home. I love the warmth they give to the walls. They act as a very good noise dampner which is a handy side effect. They offer a really nice 3D and textured look, more interesting than a 2D painting I think. I have one in my lounge, one in my kitchen, one in our bedroom, five hanging over the bannisters leading from the top level to the bottom level of my home and several on my halls and of course just about every wall space in my sewing room. It never fails to intrigue visitors, to see material on the walls instead of paintings and it's a great conversation focus.
I change my quilts fairly often and on a good dry windy day hang them upside down on the line to get the dust out. I know they will fade over time, but I don't mind. I'll simply make more quilts to replace them. I can thoroughly recommend hanging quilts in your home. It says something rather special about you, I think.
Cheerio for now

Hi, I'm about to start making window quilts for our conservatory,(I think that counts as Decor) here in the UK we don't usually make them but after seeing a few US articles I thought they would make really pretty blinds and help me to get more use out of the room in the colder months, I haven't quilted much and want to try different blocks so I think a few of then will look like big samplers we'll see. God Bless Sonya

Good idea, and definitely decor, but try to protect the fabric on the outside side. Sunlight can destroy a quilt, or any kind of fabric.

Have fun. GrannyH
