I watched a show on PBS today about electric cars and green energy in Denmark. I have been there and know that bicyclists have the right of way and great bikeways. I saw the windmills. The news item though talked about taxes on gas powered cars; recharging electric cars; and a firm called Better Place.

Most of the article took place in Copenhagen which is a compact city with great public transportation and, of course, bikes. I know that had I remained in NYC I may never have gotten my driver's license for the same reason.

They definitely have tons of great bikeways in Europe. It would be nice if we had that same support in the US. On the other hand, Europe is relatively small - i.e. building bike paths in Holland is fairly easy. Building bike paths across the entire state of Texas would be more challenging ...

I'm in a 'green' building at work. They do have bike racks for bikers. My area has narrow road and few shoulders of any. Add a biker to the mix, and it's a daunting trip. Some of our roads do have bike lanes but as I recall in Holland, the bike paths were often set off the road. That makes it really safe for bikers.

Also, we have little public transportation here.

I would love to bike to work and around town everyday, but until they start to build dedicated bike lanes I will keep on driving.

I know a number of bikers including my sons in law. They enjoy it thoroughly. It's been years since I did any biking. There is a lady in my neighborhood who rides throughout our neighborhood but that is not on the main roads in high traffic areas.
