What do you think about all the car dealerships closing? Some of them have been in business for several generations and were doing well. Around 700 Chrysler dealers are closing and GM will have to do the same. How do the companies expect to sell cars in the future, mail order?

Angie, I think it's really sad for the little guy who has been around forever, and his business was a mainstay in the neighborhood. This one dealership has been there thriugh at least 3 generations of family, he was also civicly involved in area fundraisers, and did many a promotion for the neighborhood in his dealership.

He was broken hearted and was even crying on the news- he is @ least 70 years old (doesn't have to work but loves too)but he was worried about the 20 or so people he employs-and he worried about his neighborhood-

He announced today that he will open a used car dealership and reemploy those he had to let go!

Sometimes people are more about people than the money!

I still haven't figured out how the company plans to sell cars. We'll see.

Yes, a lot of people check it all out and order one on line and it is delivered to their area to pick up or buy. Everything these days is online. It's getting to be a nuisance always having to talk to a machine. It's nice to have a personal touch in business. Young people do not know what real customer service is. They communicate through technology and do not know how to relate to people. It reminds me of some old shows on the Twilight Zone. What was imagination is now coming true.

One thing to note about online car sales is that you're still buying from a dealership. The online site partners with dealerships in areas around the country and work out the price for cars to be able to advertise.
So even though you may be buying from CarsDirect or AutoBytel, you're still going to end up buying from "ABC" Car dealership in your area.

I agree, Steve's right, the savvy dealerships have gone online. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just change, and change, unfortunately, can be a tough thing to deal with. I know it's an emotional issue for me. With these kind of changes, the best thing to do is change perspective (another difficult thing to do). i.e. accept the challenge, don't fight it, give up what you "know" (because it's now past tense) and go with what IS working. Personally, I had 3 brand new Chrysler products and was very disappointed with them. It could have been the poor relationship that the dealership and I had, and not the car. But I think it opens up an opportunity to deal a better make. You are JOY! Joyfully, Janet
