Anyone know what celebrities are doing a lot to give back right now? I know Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean just won a humanitarian award at the BET awards for their charity organizations. Very inspiring and made me curious what other celebs out there are using their celeb status for good?

Paul Sorvino actually opened a free clinic for kids with asthma whose parents cannot afford medication.

He himself has asthma, and sings opera and feels his singing has greatly improved his lung capacity - so they work with the kids on breasthing techniques - not just on meds.

That's very cool!

How about Ellen DeGenerous(generous)not only does she love animals, she is kind and passes out money and does other things on her show to give away things people can't afford-She was also from Louisiana and gave alot for Katrina.

I heard that Jay-Z is hosting a benefit concert for the New York Police, Fire Widows and Childrens Benefit Fund on 9/11 at Madison Square Garden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouOVBZbPiyo Looks like Fuse will be broadcasting the concert live. Also found this Fuse ticket giveaway for going to the benefit concert if your interested: http://www.fuse.tv/ontv/shows/jay-z/sweeps.html

That's true but I think sometimes it nice to hear about things people do. It makes me want to get more involved. I might check out that Jay-z benefit concert on Fuse tomorrow to see what its about and show my support, its on at 9pm. Not that that is really much to do but I will feel involved at least, and maybe they will tell us more ways to be involved smile

For an entire list of all celebrities and the charitable work they have done, check out this really cool and informative website, Look to the Stars: Look to the Stars

I think that most celebrities are giving back in some way, whether we know about it or not. They frequently give large cash contributions, or support charities they are passionate about. Many go so far as to start their own charities -- Michael Jackson, Lance Armstrong, Oprah Winfrey, Paul Newman (Newmans' Own, anyone?), Elton John, and Kevin Bacon are just a few. Even young stars are getting involved, like Rihanna, who started The Believe Foundation to help terminally ill children. And, there are many celebrities who give huge amounts and deny any publicity, like Bruce Springsteen. The only people who know about his charitable givings are the ones who have benefitted directly.

Either way, I think the real celebrities are the average Joes who are giving back. Many people who volunteer their time or money have the time or money to give, but many more do not. Many people give knowing they, too, could use some help. And they don't get the credit the way the celebrities do. That's why I like volunteer awards programs, like CNN's Everyday Heroes program or The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for young volunteers. If you know someone who can inspire others through their volunteer and charitable acts, why not nominate them so others can be inspired too?

CNN Everyday Heroes

Who inspires you to be charitable?
