I think this really depends on how healthy people are. My grandparents all lived into their 90s and only needed care for the last couple of years. My parents are almost 70, as are all their friends, and everybody is ridiculously healthy and able to live on their own. I think that overall health probably has a lot of do with how much care is eventually needed: it seems to me that when people are generally fit and eat health food, when they get do actually get near the end of their lifespans, they suffer very little. This is not just based on my own experience, but that of my parents and their friends who all worked in health care.

So perhaps the best advice for us CF people is to eat healthy, get lots of exercise and save a little bit for those last few years when we'll need in-home or nursing home care.

Interestingly tho' I watched a documentary on the oldest people in the world.... it turns out there is no secret.... one woman never married never had children.. she lived to 106 still alive... another man had family.. still lived in his first house.. far far away from his kids but loved it.. .just schose to kep himself busy with some OOOLLLLDDD gardgets...then there was a man who smoke and drank scotch every day... and still working.....he was 104... they all seemed to agree that there was no secret... I gues yes we are better to take good care of ourselves... but isn't funny that there are just no srecrets in life... to happiness to success etc... we just all need to do the best we can

I read somewhere recently that there was no difference statistically in terms of happiness between people who had kids and people who didn't. There were no regrets either way as long as the person in question had consciously chosen a particular path. The people who said that they were less happy turned out to be those who chose one path but deep down would have preferred the other. Maybe the one secret is trying to be true to yourself as best as possible.

I am just hoping that if I take good care of myself, eat right, stay physically and mentally active I will be able to take care of myself.
