Nuts have very heart healthy oils in them, including almonds. Nuts are a great food to help lower cholesterol.

I've read that red rice yeast is also good. My husband is taking this now daily, along with trying the cinnamon, and it seems to be working great. His cholesterol is now down to about 190 from about 250.

We just made diet changes and it worked for him.

Nuts of all kinds are very good for the heart, esp almonds and walnuts. They have fat but it's omega3's, which are the good, healthy fats.

Mom was over for Easter dinner last night and she has been taking XKO3 for about 4 months now. I asked here if her doctor had tested her cholesterol again. She did and her lastest results are as follows. Total cholesterol result was 185. That is now below 200 for the first time in many many years. What really surprised me more is the Triglycerides went from above 300 to 202. She is really pleased and I as well, to see some more positive results.

Hi Kim, Oats have soluble fiber and very good to lower your mom's bad cholesterol if consumed regularly. I'd also suggest that she include soy in her daily intake. Regular consumption of soyabean in any form (soymilk, soy powder and soy nuggets) will be great for her! Not sure if your mom eats fish but regular fish intake will have a much positive cardio-protective role than eating fish capsules. Researches have shown that garlic will help to lower her bad cholesterol and total cholesterol. I urge your mom to keep a flake of raw garlic in her mouth, on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and gulp it down with water. She wouldn't even get the taste of the raw garlic. This gives fabulous cholesterol levels which are immensely heart healthy. Try it!! To raise her good cholesterol, your mom can do with some regular physical exercise especially aerobic activity like treadmill, exercycle or even something as simple as a 30-40 mins brisk walk. Do try this for about 6 months regularly and get back to me with your feedback once you get her lipid profile checked again. Goodluck & Salute!

A new study supports the use of red rice yeast to lower LDL, or bad cholesterol. Here's an ABC news storyabout it.

Birch tea favors the elimination of cholesterol from the body. Birch leaves have diuretic and diaphoretic action without causing kidney irritation. Birch tea helps eliminate toxins from the body, through the strong diuresis it produces. Also, the leaves have choleric and antiseptic properties and therefore favor the elimination of uric acid and cholesterol in the body.
