Oh I definitely agree everybody can lose weight - that's how they get the pouch! I was talking about "going the full way" to get trim enough that even that pouch disappears. Some people honestly just don't have the time to invest in the research and gym time to get to that final level of buffness. If they were on the Biggest Loser and that was their ONLY focus in life for 6 months straight then they have an advantage. If they are working 2 jobs and raising 3 kids as a single mom, I find it hard to blame them if they can't also work out 3 hours a day for example. They might be able to lose some weight - but not all of it, unless you are talking about a 10 year plan smile

Hey I get it I had to lose 30 pounds at one point too and shortly after accomplishing this I got divorced and became a single mom who had to work 3 jobs. It would have been so easy for me to just gain all the weight back but I chose not to.

Nobody has the time for workouts and cooking these days but the truth is that they can find the time if they want to. You make it a priority and if you read any of the info on my site you'll soon find out it doesn't require working out 3 hours a day either.

What they show on that t.v. program is so far from reality it's no even funny. It's entertainment.

Most people who lose weight do it quietly and over a long period of time but of course every body these days wants results within a week. And those who get buff and stay buff commit for life.

Let's say you needed to lose 200 pounds. If you committed to 45 minutes of adequate exercise a day (not just any old program but a good one) and on top of that you chose to eat a healthy non processed diet with adequate calories to sustain what you are doing you could easily lose 100 pounds in under a year.

I've see plenty of people do this and their words once they accomplish this are typically "I just needed to get serious about it".

People are just so driven by instant gratification and the infommercial mongers know that but weight loss doesn't work that way.

One of my clients is the former Dean of Nursing for the U of A and she was seriously overweight for her height. She was one of the busiest clients I have ever worked with and she was coming to me 1-2 times a week just to rehab her body so she would be able to do the tougher workouts necessary to burn fat. It took her well over a year to lose just 35 pounds and now she's hiking and working out on her own and keeping it off with very little help from me.

Her advice to a relative who recently asked her how to get the same results was "start making small sustainable changes and build on those changes over time, you won't do this overnight but you'll get there eventually, have patience!"

More people need to embrace this type of reality vs. the b.s. they show on t.v. I'm so sick and tired of hearing people make excuses. Put in the time and the work and you will get where you want to be and it won't take you 10 years either!

Hi, I think everyone has a right to their own opinion.

I hope you aren't generalizing all overweight people. May I ask if you've ever had a serious weight problem? When I say serious, I mean over 150lbs overweight? Have you ever had an eating disorder that has pushed you to the brink of death? I wonder if you were born overweight (13lbs) and remained that way throughout elementary, middle school and high school being constantly tormented by peers?
Do you have parents that are very overweight, and grandparents on both sides that are obese?

It's not always as simple as you think. Telling an obese person to "just get it together and loose weight is like telling someone with anorexia to just eat."

I guess my ranting comes down to this, after reading the sentence below from your post I was very offended. Some people would think themselves lucky to only be 70lbs overweight.

"I've had clients who ate garbage for years and were so fat and they lost 70 pounds, 40 pounds, 30 pounds"

Obesity is also somewhat of a "self-fulfilling prophecy"

I know for me at least, I suffer frm clinical Depression. Some days it is all can do to get out of bed in the morning.

Intellectually I KNOW that exercise and staying away from the carbs and sugar will make me feel better in the long run. But when I am looking down that deep, dark hole of depression; situps don't make me feel better- they make me feel fatter. However i can easily zoneout while eating a Milky Way.
