The term 'celtic music' encompasses the traditional music of the celtic countries - Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany (in France), Galicia (in Spain), also in the US and some provinces in Canada which have come under the influence of the Celt traditions and music. The tradition of these countries and their music go way back to ancient times.

Celtic music is a blast and very contagious - I love it! The most common instruments for this type of music are:

Fiddle
Flute
Tin Whistle (pennywhistle)
Bagpipes and Uilleann pipes
Bombarde
Free Reed Instruments
Melodeon
Button Accordion
Piano Accordion
Concertina
Banjo
Mandolins, citterns, bouzoukis, guitars
Harp
Hammered Dulcimer
Bodhrn
Other Percussion

The Bodhran is a goat skin drum. My father used to play old Irish and Scottish tunes on his banjo or guitar. I used to play percussion intruments, guitar, banjo and the dulcimer.
