My blog that I'm keeping on my gastric bypass experience has had many positive (and one negative) replies.

And even the one negative reply I got wasn't aimed at me but just at weight loss surgery in general. I got permission form the person who wrote that letter to put it up on my blog so that both sides could be represented. Gastric bypass isn't a light surgery to be considered, and the purpose of my blog is to try to help people with info and real, not-fluffed-up, experiences.

I haven't viewed many bloggs. However, I think the ideas and opinions of others can be an asset to researching and grasping knowledge

I'm sure we are all aware of the cliche's, "Two heads are better than one", "Knowledge is power". What a wonderful and fun way to find words and/or phrase to do searches with, as well as shared links.

Learning requires listening. Blogging can be a free, yet wealthy resource, if one can be open minded, and possess a mindset consisting of truly believing no one knows everything. Other peoples words can stimuate a readers brain, giving them a starting point in teir reasearch, as well as many ideas along their research path. Kinda like openign up a "can of worms".

However, it also requires the "common sense" to seperate the riff-raff from usable dialogue

I actually love blogging

Blogging allows me to share my knowledge on Law of Attraction and I am able to share with more people over the internet

I write the post myself, not outsourced because sharing success stories in visualization allows me to be connected with my inner passion.

Blogging also allows me to share useful FREE resouces, eg Attraction Report by Bob Proctor so that more people are empowered to attract better things into their life.

Love to have your comments on my blog

Note to self (and others): Always copy posts before clicking the submit button. If the page times out when submitting, post will be lost.

The abridged version:

1. I don't keep a journal because I don't want it to become a languorous day-to-day recollection of my activities. It always becomes that so I save myself the paper (And expensive cute journals) and have vowed never to keep a "journal" again.

2. Not all blogs are journals. Not all journals are blogs. That being said and having read a few journal-style blogs in my day I've found that I have a voyeuristic itch that can easily be scratched by reading such blogs.

3. I blog because I enjoy it. My blog is similar in personality and in style and content to myself. I find that people who enjoy my blog generally are the people who would want to become my friend.

4. Do I think my blog has any literary value? No. If any, not much. But it's also not written poorly. I know the difference between you're and your (and the ever popular "ur") and there, their, and they're. Am I hoping that my blog will result in me being "discovered"? The answer is also no. See point #3.

If you've got the itch:

There is [censored] and there is good stuff, just like any other sphere out there. When I was diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease I began a blog, initially for family and friends to keep up with doctor's visits, tests, etc. Now I get about 1000 hits monthly and emails from people all over the world thanking me for the inspiration I give them. So it all depends on how you write and how useful it is to others

I mainly blog to keep in touch with friends and let them know what is going on in my life. There is a lot of bunk (maybe that won't be censored), and I am guilty of posting bunk sometimes. It's not like I'm trying sell my blogs as literature though. I suppose if I ever have a professional blog I would be more careful.

I was blogging on my webpage at www.obesityhelp.com -- I had a gastric bypass also and this is my 3 year anniversary. But I ALWAYS think about how I should be blogging about my writing (I'm the Northern Arizona Networking Director for The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators in Arizona SCBWI-AZ). I have many interests and feel I have something to offer.

Congrats Daisybun!

The thing about blogging is - you never know who might be helped by what you are writing.

Whether you blog about you GBS surgery or your writing - there is going to be someone in the same boat as you.

Back several years ago when I was at the height (or would that be depth?) of my depression, one of the things that helped my the most was finding that there were other people going through the exact same thing I was.

I think blogging can do this, too.

Sure, every blog is not going to helpe every person. But I'd be willing to bet that every blog helps at least ONE person.

The key for me is that the blog must have an aim or a purpose, not just random musings about the day, the weather etc, or I won't visit. And that was the problem with developing my own blog--it was difficult for me to unearth a focus. Finally I decided on Self-help books for African American families.
