It is very hard sometimes as an adult to break free of what our parents expect of us. We've grown up with "the way" being (sometimes softly, sometimes like a brick) beaten into our heads. So when we have to go a different route, either because of choice, or because "fate" pushes us that way- it is hard to reconcile.
I think you are being very brave and honest in facing up to what you believe would be difficulties in parenting. If more people did this, we would have fewer children in foster homes due to abuse.
