Have any of you read Dark Roots by Cate Kennedy? Just Look! at that dreadful photo on the cover. Funny stories though - and sad at the same time - what some people will go through for beauty's sake and the sake of romance!

I think a hat would be a great idea right now. Thanks for the suggestion. Anything to help me go a little longer without getting it cut again already since I hate to lose any more length.

I haven't read that one but it sounds like it would be an interesting read. I'll have to see if my library has it.

You can wear shawls too, those can be pretty draped around your shoulders

Hi, Thanks Jase & Lynne for what you said about the bangs. That helps me alot. To Hellokitty, I also feel like I'm in limbo sometimes with my hair. I'm growing it out longer & trying not to dye it. I want to see how all of it looks in my natural hair color. My daughter decided that she will get a relaxer put in her beautiful hair. She has great hair & could be in commercials & hair ads. She has long wavy hair that is very healthy. I hope the relaxer works out for her. My husband & I think that she should leave her hair alone. But she always wanted straight hair & she told me she is bored with it.
Jase & Lynne you both really helped me with your info about the bangs. It makes it less confusing for me & gives me something to go by too. I think my bangs start too far into my hairline. I need a change. So for now I will grow them out & take it from there. Happy Mother's Day for tommorow to all the mom's! Judy K. Chicago.

Judy,
If your daughter is not african and her long wavy curly hair is not already relaxed... i would suggest a silk straightener. It is gentler and leaves the hair in better condition than the relaxers designed for black hair.

HI, I was out of Chicago for awhile. Jase, we are caucasion & not African so the stylist gave my daughter the silk relaxer. It looks nice but she has to dry it straight down with a paddle brush + use a flatiron to get it straight. Otherwise, her hair is very flat on her head & full/waves at the bottom. Her hair looked better with her natural waves. My daughter does not like to allow extra time for anything. She used to wash & air dry her hair. Now, she has to do all of this. It seems damaging to me. But it is up to her. I accept my natural curly hair & have layers that work with it.
Thank you for letting me know about the silk relaxer though. Thank God they used the right type. I belong to a few websites & it seems to me that most women are not happy with what they have. If they have dark hair they want it light. If they have curly hair they want it straight. Then other's want it curly. You get the point. I read about many horror story's about hair on different sites. I agree with the above post. I also enjoy this site & get so much out of it. I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend. Judy K. Chicago.

Hello Judy, Make sure your daughter is using a thermal protectant on her hair. It will help to protect it from the blow drying and flat ironing. Your hairdresser can recommend one.
I talk to many people who are unhappy after they chemically straighten their hair. It is never as easy as with someone who has naturally straight hair. You can never just shampoo and go. I have found that learning to deal with your natural hair (and love it) it best unless you just like to spend alot of time on your hair.

I finally went the other day and had my hair done. I ended up getting it in a bob type style with face framing layers and my bangs are side swept. I hated to lose so much length but it feels much better to get rid of those shaggy layers. :)Thanks everyone for all your help on this subject. I feel like I have a lot of styling options now with my hair like this so that is definitely a plus.
