I have a Libra man. I'm not sure if "Wonderful" is the word I'd use....LOL! He can't make a firm decision about very many things! LOL!

I don't get what other "men" are thinking about. Yes, I've had my moments in the past, but they are few and far between. As far as giving a perspective, sometimes I don't feel as strong about subjects here as others do, then thee are times where I am shocked (like this)...where I can't say anything. Anyone who takes their kids..heck, ANY kid/baby into a dangerous situation like that deserves all the disrespect that they deserve. Kids are not dumb -- they observe the actions of their parents, take notes, and reflect the "do as I say, not as I do" attitude with "Why should I do what you say, when you do the opposite?" Those kids do follow the example of their parents -- good or bad.

Wow Frieda, sounds like you have a clueless dh just like I do. If you didn't live clear across the country from me, I'd swear we were married to the same man! I wish I could offer some advice about the defensiveness, but I haven't been able to rid my own husband of this horrible trait. Mine is one of those 'anything goes' types, and will excuse and defend literally anything someone else does. Maybe the best way to handle something like this is to just not try to discuss these types of things with him, and then just come here to vent. That's what I have to do. There is no talking to someone with that kind of personality. They seem to have the mentality of kids themselves. Good luck!!

I am a little torn on the 'Do as I do' thing. Granted, there are some things that should not be done in front of kids (drugs, sex, etc.), but I think an adult should be able to sit down and have a beer or cigarette without the kid thinking they are entitled to it also. The kid just needs to be taught that there is an appropriate time for them to do adult things, and now is not the time...period.

Frieda, you have a strong core, and that's what matters. There's plenty of people with a strong facade, they're confrontational, belligerent, won't back down because it might be seen as being weak, but inside they fear that they're always wrong. Then there's people like you who have a "quiet" exterior but KNOW what's inside them.

I totally agree, DLEE, and I almost made that same allowance, but I didn't want to divert from my point, which was that I was most disgusted about the drugs.

Your examples were perfect.

Aw, thanks Grey. It is so true that this was one of those instances where I knew so strongly that I was right and he was wrong, that I was able to back off and think,
"If he's going to be that ridiculous, it must because he's being defensive and taking this personally, and it's not worth wrecking my whole nights' sleep over it." But I do thank my lucky stars we're not wrecking a whole kid over it!

DLEE, it sounds that bad? Yikes. Thank god for no stepkids or I'd have committed hari kari long ago....though, I do think he'd be a strict parent with his own kids...though I'm happy to never know for sure at this point.

That is a good point about drinking/cigarettes. I hadn't thought about that. My SIL married a Mormon, but couldn't handle the religion, so her kids have Mormon influences on one side, and they're also our godkids. I don't know if they're still like this, but when they were younger and were visiting, they'd give us flack over drinking a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. I found that a bit annoying. So, I guess there is a gray area to all of this. But definitely I think if something is illegal, you don't expose your kids to people doing that recreationally. Also, exposing kids to cigarette smoking is bad for their health as well as being a bad influence, even if it's legal for adults.
