Bethj - that's fun!

Does anyone know how the tradition of "Easter candy" began?

I don't remember all the candy when I was a child - we'd hunt real eggs and sometimes find plastic ones with a $1 in them.

Well Easter was always tied in with spring fertility rites so it was about fresh bread, fresh treats, so whatever the treat of the time was, they ate it. So I found a site that says in the 1800s when chocolate began to invade Europe as an "exotic treat" (cocoa having come over from the Americas) that it naturally became the treat desired at Easter too smile So there's a long history there!

Bob amused me greatly, I had four hard boiled eggs in the fridge and he took some food coloring and colored them for me!! smile awwwwwwwwwww smile

Well he then turned them into deviled eggs which I love, so it was a short term but lovely treat! So the best kind of gift - nutritious and now completely out of the house wink No clutter!!

Later on we're going to have some corned beef, we made like four of them over the past week as a long celebration of Corned Beef day smile

Now you can buy all the candy that didn't sell for half off - just what we need!

I'm in favor of books, toys, etc. Little things that are fun and maybe even educational.

Right I love that at Halloween too - making little goody bags of toys. The kids really like it, the parents like it, and the toys last past the first night smile

We had all girls so for holidays like Easter and Halloween, they got things like chapstick or make up, knick knacks like little Easter bunny figurines, whatever I could come up with that wasn't candy!

You're right about it all being half off now! I was going to go look for some half price Easter decorations tho, now that I have grandkids around. When I did daycare, I decorated for every holiday but got out of the habit.

Wouldn't that be more of an OBsession?
