We have two Alaskan Malamutes who have the best personalities. I grew up with Rottweilers, but after the last one had osteosarcoma, wanted a completely different breed. Tha Mals are definitely different plus you get a mini-snowstorm in Australia during the annual coat blow. Imagine daily vacuuming, brushing and hair tumbleweeds going across the verandah - that's life with a pair of mals!

We have a rat terrier(we think)named Sammie who is 1 1/2, and another terrier looker named Jack-Jack who is 1 1/2 and we just rescued another dog...her name is Katie Lou and she is a black lab. The vet seems to think she is about 2yrs. They are the light of my life and I love them with all my heart. Katie has only been with us for about 10 days so she is still getting use to things. She lived on the streets in a VERY BAD area and we are just so happy to have her!!!

I adore shelties, although I've never had one myself. I used to work at a museum and our director was a breeder. Believe it or not, she used to bring AT LEAST TWO to work every day. And of course, the newest brood of adorable puppies always came in!
I loved to see them and play with them, but it was super unprofessional. I mean, have you ever walked into a museum and been BARKED at?!?!?!?
But I did fall in love with them. We have two twin silver tabbies. They would KILL US if we ever got a dog. But if I do get a dog someday, I would definitely get a sheltie!!

Look to the left. That's Beastie. She owns us. But she's cute, and occasionally sweet, so being her Pet Human is tolerable.

I have one cat named Bart. I have recently lost 4 cats to old age. Bart is enjoying his lone cat status so I am not sure if we will add to the household right now.

We have two Australian Cattle Dogs, one red (age 2) and one blue (age 8). We also have a 14 year old tri-color sheltie. All are rescues, the Cattle Dogs were in the pound and the Sheltie was from a puppy mill. Wouldn't trade them for anything! (Well, maybe the sheltie...she has issues...well, wouldn't really!)

a puppy mill?!! That is sad, but she is a lucky girl to have been saved. I hate puppy mills, they are aweful. I saw a video on the humane society website a few months back. They were showing videos of the effects of puppy mills. It is so sad, those people do not respect God's creatures. All should be loved and treated as gifts. I am off topic, sorry, good for you for saving lives!!

Without trying to toot my own horn, we've often said that Cookie (my sheltie) is lucky she ended up with us, because most people wouldn't put up with her issues. She's shy, unfriendly to strangers, frequently has potty accidents in the house and pretty much always has, and sometimes "attacks" my husband when he comes in late at night (she's on guard duty and barks first and asks questions after). All of her problems stem from being in a puppy mill and lack of socialization at a young age. She is also lucky we haven't had kids, because Cookie would not work in a home with kids. (She's scared of them and wouldn't hesitate to bite if scared or cornered.) I hate to see pets given away or taken to shelters when people have kids, but it would be justified in her case. Anyway, I just always viewed it as I formed a commitment to her when I adopted her ten years ago.
