Is anybody else out there disappointed in the choice of nightwear for women? It seems that for at least the last 10 years, all that is available for women to wear at night is nightshirts, pajamas or sexy lingerie. Whatever happened to the pretty "nightgown?" The only ones I see are some that look like matronly granny gowns. I have a fine assortment of beautiful flannel-backed satiny gowns with ribbons and rosebuds but they are wearing thin. Does anybody else feel upset at the demise of the beautiful nightie?

My mom makes her own nightgowns. I have a couple of nightgowns. I prefer the satiny type. Although, I now do prefer a tank top and cotton pajama bottoms.

I like pajamas better then night gowns, cotton pjs to sleep in. nightgowns are nice until i get in bed,. and they bunch up just not very comfortable to sleep in, for me anyway.

skyhaven -- I agree that nightgowns get twisted in bed and that is a nuisance. But somehow, they are still worth it to me.

Jeanne -- Like your mom, I have also sewed a few nightgowns myself. I would love to design them for a business since I have many ideas for designs. But then I would have to invest in a professional-type sewing machine and learn how to use it -- lots of time and money, not to mention starting a business. It is a nice dream (pun intended).

I was going to recommend laughingsisterssleepwear but the URL doesn't appear to be working. I love nightgowns but also have a hard time finding them. Like you say they are either too sexy or too frumpy. I like the in between.

I have never heard of laughingsisterssleepwear. I also could not find a link for them. Gee, I hope they haven't shut down! But I wouldn't be surprised since there doesn't seem to be much demand for this sort of sleepwear.

I love nightgowns!

Diana - I think it's a *great* idea to make them. Don't think of it as a huge project. Think of it as a one time experiment to see how much one sells for on eBay - or to give to a friend as a special present. Look on Craigslist etc. for an inexpensive but good quality machine to start with! smile

What kind do you like? Here's one on Amazon that seems nice to me -

I will comment that right now with it being winter I'm wearing long super thick high neck flannel nightgowns, or flannel long-pants with long-sleeved shirts, so I am the opposite of sexy smile

I think this is an image of one of the ones I wear, it has bears and it glows in the dark smile

I'm wearing a very long gauze one from Designs by Cinda.

I also have a sleeveless version for summer. It's surprisingly warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
