I don't think anyone is to blame, it's just a very heated topic. No one is at fault. smile

Good point. We might start getting people (trolls) posting here who care nothing about CF issues...I want to avoid that as much as the next person.

That IS scary. Is it only the availability of the abortions, but also the money? You have to forgive me but I'm really ignorant on this, but I'm assuming most people pay for abortions, right? It's probably cheaper to have them outside the traditional system, right? Do most insurance companies cover them? I'm thinking no. I'm going to google this, because I really should know more about it.

The idea that Roe v Wade may be overturned is horrifying. I hope that day never comes. But it's scary that a medical professional sees it on the horizon.

I don't think most private insurance companies cover abortions. It is an "elective procedure" after all.

Does Medicaid cover abortions? My BIL's girlfriend had 3 abortions before she had my neice 5 years ago--her ex-husband paid for one, her mom paid for one, and I *think* the government a/k/a Medicaid paid for one.

Really good question. I know Alberta Healthcare does cover it (I checked, a couple of years back). I know it's also an on-demand public procedure in New Zealand and the state covers it there.

I dunno about the US. Surely it would be a whole heap cheaper for an insurance company than a kid?

I'm pro choice. If I ever had an oops, you can be sure I'd be looking for means to undo it. But my fiance is very staunchly against abortion. If an accidental pregnancy happens, he'll want to keep it. It would certainly break us apart... loudly, angrily, etc. If I ended a pregnancy, I'd be ending our relationship. No doubt, no maybes, definitely. That's just the way it is.

But he won't get snipped, either, though he knows the only way he'll become a daddy again is if I die young and he finds someone else. So, for the sake of our future, I'm going to look into sterilizing ME. The women in my family tend to hit menopause late. Another 25 years of possible fertility is simply too long to take the risk that the BC might fail, leaving my marriage in ruins.

Can you imagine asking your MOM to pay for an abortion? That would be hitting rock bottom with a serious thud! Ugh!

And, not to be mean, but if you can't afford an abortion, you can't afford to have a baby. Why do people get themselves into these situations?

I could NEVER ask my mom to pay for an abortion. No way!

Even though she couldn't afford an abortion at the time, she always found someone to pay for them. But, when she got pregnant for the 4th time (all three abortions and the pregnancy resulting in my neice were in the span of 2 years or so), she decided to keep the baby. That baby, my neice, is now 5. After my neice was born, she had the appointment made to get her tubes tied but she chickened out twice and ended up getting pregnant early last year and had my nephew in September. She actually did get her tubes tied this time! :-)

People get themselves into these situations because they don't think!

I just hope and hope that Roe v. Wade will not be overturned. It is not the government's place to tell us what we can and cannot do with our own bodies, and it's a huge violation of privacy and very sexist to outlaw a woman's right to choose what's best for her/all involved.

The continuing trend of religion playing a role in politics has me very scared about personal freedom and how long we actually have before we will all be ruled by the laws of the church. It amazes me how the US is supposed to be the "land of the free", yet in the last few years, our freedom/privacy has taken a huge hit from the conservative right. Yikes. After the 2000 and 2004 elections, I wanted to move to Canada, but didn't quite make that move. If things don't start to improve, I might eventually have to make that jump!

I have my concerns that the US is slipping into a theocracy, especially with the people that are in place and power now.

But that is a discussion that doesn't belong in this forum, IMO.
