I need some feedback from forum members.

In your opinion, what's the best way to do release your stress and why do you think it is so?

I'm looking forward to your advice.

Thank you in advance.

My most enjoyable way of releasing stress is to sit back with my favorite music playing and doing deep breathing exercises with my eyes closed. I take a deep breath and hold it a few seconds until I can feel my brain get "light", then I slowly let the breath out through my open lips.

Hi babyquacker,

Thanks for you advice. I agree with you on doing a correct breath technique will release our stress. But it's hard to make my brain get "light" as you mentioned.

Some people also advice me to SHOUT loudly as possible. I don't know about anyone else, but this does not help me. Maybe a bit, not entirely since after I shout, I somehow feel angry.

You should have an aquarium with colorful fresh water fishes.

or have a dog. playing with them will help you release stress.

hangout with your friends play monopoly. Its fun though your old. it will help.

have a massage , go to a nice spa.

call your loveones and have a nice chat.

You should take your daily vitamins. Stress can fasten aging.

Hi Izrul,

I have lots of ways to manage my stress, but one way I particularly love is to sit back with some beautiful, relaxing music playing in the background, close my eyes, and picture myself in a beautiful, serene place that is special to me. It may be a pristine white beach, a lush meadow with birds singing, or the top of a mountain with an amazing view. Just spending a minute or two in this beautiful place I've created in my mind's eye helps me to release my worries and center myself. When I open my eyes I have more energy and feel great!

Hope this helps.

Warmest,
Kim

I've recently discovered a great de-stresser. Putting together puzzles. You have to focus on what you're doing and it gets to be a passion-finding that one piece you're looking for.

I used to think puzzles were kind of a waste of time, tho I did love doing them. Now I feel the world fall away when I concentrate on putting a puzzle together.

I recently bought a 2000 piece puzzle that I'm going to glue to a board and put on my wall when I'm finished. I guess I still can't get past the idea it should have some practical use-lol.

Going for a run eh... hhmmm I think I will try it, lughnassa007.

Candice25, I love your tips. Although it is simple to do but somehow I forget to do it myself. Thanks a lot.

Coach_Kim_L, I've done your technique before and I must say, it does work. Just wanted to give a tip to people who want to try this. Listening to good music is the key here. The best music to hear is a music with no vocal or singer. I usually hear Kenny G's music when doing this technique. It works so well indeed.

Hey joanj, this is totally new for me. I never think of that. I will definitely try this and let everybody know the outcome.

I think the best way to relieve stress is some form of exercise. I have anger issues and I found that a punching bag really helps with that as well as gives a good workout.

I like the deep breaths and quiet music techniques, I'm sure each of us reacts well to different combinations of things!

I also like to remind myself that no matter how stressed I get about something, there are people out there who have no food to eat and who are scared to go outside their hut. It helps me to put things into perspective.

Yesterday i was really upset, at one time i would let it eat me up, but instead i got on my treadmill and pounded away, the music and the exercise gave me a superficial benefit. I was able to think about the stress, with out flipping out and said to my self oh well deal with it and let it go. which i did. it worked for me

That's great, Skyhaven!

I find aroma really helps too - if I put on a candle with a soothing scent it helps to relax me smile

I also like deep breathing (I recently learned some breathing techniques in a yoga class). And I agree, putting things in perspective really helps to de-stress me. Recently our black lab jumped at our window, and cracked it. So, we are going to have to put out about $500 to replace it. My husband was absolutely livid!

I was just relieved that the dog didn't put herself through it - that would have been awful having to explain that to the kids.

Wow it is SO good your dog is all right! You are right, in the grand scheme of things you can fix a window - but if the dog had been hurt, imagine the long term heartache ...

That's exactly what I thought too! We were SOOOOO lucky! And then I thought of someone I know whose child has a terrible eye infection. I thought I'd rather have a busted window than to have my child have to go through what her child is going through now.

Really, we are so lucky in so many ways.

Sometimes nothing will do but for me to change locations. Yoga and stretching is great, but a different vista does wonders. A walk is my favorite and if I'm feeling particularly aggressive, a trip to the driving range does me good. My DH has asked me whose face I'm imagining on my golf ball! LOL

I could imagine that whacking a ball really hard would relieve stress LOL! I wonder how many people get into sports to relieve stress?

Laughing!! That's another great stress reliever for me. When I can watch a movie that makes me laugh and laugh, I feel SOOOO much better.

I spin. There is something very relaxing about the rhythm of the wheel that puts me right into a meditative state. I've even fallen asleep while spinning. And, when I'm done, I have some nice yarn to show for it.

Bella_Deanna, believe me; sometimes my golfing is VERY laughable, so I guess I kill two birds with one stone. My mood change can be so dramatic after a few buckets of balls that DH encourages me to "knock hell out of it!" from the sidelines! Better I whack the golf ball than he has to deal with a wife in a bad mood the rest of the day? LOL

HA HA... so are you saying that watching you play golf would be an exercise in stress relief??? HA HA!

Actually, one of my girlfriends used to play golf, and when she'd talking about how nice it was outside, and how lovely the golf course was, I thought it sounded pretty great! A nice sport out in a beautiful setting! Sounds way more appealing than basketball or something like that (for me anyway).

I'm normally pretty regular with my exercise, but have gotten lazy over the last month. I can really see the difference in how I'm able to handle my stressers. I guess I best get myself back in the swing tomorrow!

Laughing is really such great medicine! So many studies show that it makes the body physically healthier. Great advice, Deanne!!

Llyn - there was a scene in the Mists of Avaon TV miniseries of a woman spinning and it was SO restful and relaxing. I can just imagine how meditative that is.

I was just thinking how sometimes I like to play "Bejeweled" to relax... but if I play too long, it actually stresses me out LOL. The same with Free Cell.

I notice too that when my kids play too much computer or video games, they get a bit amped too, and can't quite unwind from it. Must be all those images inputting in the brain with no energetic release.

As for games, I'm a Pogo.com girl. I find it's a great tool for taking my mind off stuff. It also helps to build eye co-ordination and other mental applications. grin

I go pound on the piano. The more aggressive the piece the better. My husband knows that when he hears "Hungarian" by Edward Macdowell, just to send all children running, and not even try to get in my way or ask questions.

It is the musical equivelent of slinging an axw at a chord of wood. And if I d not finish that song with perfection, I will just keep going and going, until it is etierh perfect - or my finergs cramp so badly they can't move.

You can go out to the park and have long walks to destress. You can even got o the beach if there's one nearby and simply hang out with family or friends. Just having a little 'vacation' off your job will help you destress. smile

Work usually stresses me out because it's always so busy. So sometimes when I send e-mails out I'll put positivefeedack@careerbuilder.com in the BCC line and then it will return a positive/motivational message. Makes me feel smile for a moment and feel better smile

Sometimes I used to just scream and scream and scream. (when I worked in accounting) I felt much better after, but did not do it too often - it made my throat sore.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here but I'd have to say that I release stress best by listening to good music while having my eyes closed. I'm a pianist, and really enjoy the romantic type pieces, they can take you off into another world when you just listen to them.
I created a short youtube video to a clip of my piano song "Autumn Leaves." It's meant for a quick bit of relaxation in your day. You can find the link in my signature if you'd like to see it. I hope you enjoy it!

I usually do yoga after work, or take a walk around the neighborhood. Or attempt to meditate. There's a website where you can actually create your own space and 'meditate' on the web. It's fun to visit when I'm at work and I need a quick 5-min relaxation time. That, and squeezing stress balls.

Musicgirl, I couldn't watch your video because I got an error message saying the "URL contained a malformed video ID". Did you move it or change it?

I have found the last few months, with the stress of caring for my aging Mother, that I have really enjoyed deep breathing with my eyes closed and visualising peaceful scenes and thoughts. I also have been exercising more and that has really helped.

I just had a brief discussion about one of my favorite shows NOT being like a "medical soap opera", and I finished my part of the discussion by taking a REALLY long breath and holding it, while I closed my eyes. It made me de-stress almost immediately, although I did not win. wink

A key aspect of most stress release techniques is the ability to train the mind to quiet and observe without judgement. The core of meditation. You can do that while showering, taking a long bath, going for a walk, exercising, or simply sitting still. The more you can train your mind to quietly observe without judging, and realizing that whatever is happening around you is temporary, the less likely you are to attach meaning and emotion to it. You realize that everything we experience is transient. It will all pass into stardust. Just like we will.

Improving your chances of getting a good job starts with research. You need to know what companies are hiring and what skills are in demand. Then, make a list of the things you’re good at and focus on those. Finally, polish your resume and cover letter for maximum impact. HIV can be transmitted through breast milk.
