Is this the point we're talking about? That is ridiculous.

If that's the case, then why is the average life span of an outside cat so much shorter than an inside cat?

My blue heeler had heartworms when we first got him..."herbs, ash and dirt" wouldn't have done much to save him from dying from that. No, it took several hundred dollars and a good vet, but it was worth it.

I don't think your "remedies" would go far helping an animal with a broken leg...wild animals die from injuries like that all the time, and their natural instincts can't help them there.

I just don't think your comment "survived just fine" without vet care holds water.

They really are use to people dropping their pets off at an emotional expense and paying the itemized bill.

Researching remedies can save a pretty penny!

No, fact. Opinions are based on belief and feelings, facts have numbers behind them.

I'm drawing from memory here, but I'm pretty sure the average lifespan of a cat who lives outdoors with no medical care is under three years. Cats that live indoors and get appropriate medical attention often live into their teens.

I actually care about my cat, so she's worth the money I spend at the vet's office to keep her around an extra decade.

Fortunately for my wallet, her lifetime care will probably still cost less than caring for a baby from conception to age 2.

I have a friend who has a horse and two dogs. She says the dogs' vet bills cost more than the horse. The horse is insured, the dogs are not, so that helps. She also said that here in Colorado the vet charges for the horse as livestock, where as the dogs are pets and can charge more.

We brought Fionn home in March when he was 9 weeks old. I haven't added up all the bills, but it was an interesting year.
He had his usual puppy vaccinations etc. Got neutered at 5 months (I cried after I dropped him off, he was still so little and I felt so bad). Came down with pneumonia at 7 months (Started crying when they were examining him - he was in bad shape). Got his ear torn open by a nasty dog at the dog park at 9 months - the owners of the other dog paid for that! (Didn't cry this time, but I was furious.)

I'm such a wimp with my dog, I can't imagine having a kid that got sick!

My friend with the horses got a new puppy last April. Her puppy was a stray that had been rescued by some people in San Antonio. So she had to do the puppy shots, and then neuter. She uses the most expensive vet in town (I think). He had sarcoptic mites, which took the vet a few visits to diagnose. She's been battling his ear problems since she got him, he's always scratching them and they can't figure out why, the mites have been treated and gotten rid of. Anyway, it's not quite been a year, and I know she's already spent $1000 or more on him. Still, that's not even what most people around here spend on day care in two months if they have kids.

Her horses are too old to get affordable insurance, so she pays the primo rates on their care as well. As long as they're healthy and uninjured, it's fine, but if one of them gets sick or needs a wound stitched up, there goes $300 minimum.

But still...cheaper than kids! Plus, you can leave them unsupervised all day, legally!

I am amazed at how complex issues can turn out to be, especially ones this lame.

It's like making a mountain out of a molehill. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from women..

You complain about kids, you complain about parents, you complain about pets vs. kids.
What the ____ difference does it make if I state my own opinion and you don't like it. NOT ONE BIT. So you can stop chewing on my leg now over this and go find something else to chew on.

Oh god, you are so annoying. If you don't like the conversation here, why join it? If the only thing you have to offer is this week's method of picking a fight, please go away. Come back when you are willing to have constructive conversations and drop the misogynistic comments.

Oh I am sorry Paris Hilton. Don't worry, I don't want in your conversation anymore. I have more intelligence than to waste my time with your frivolities.

Sorry if I'm a nonconformist. Because you all are ANNOYING>

And I don't expect self-centered socialites to have any logic when it comes to real life.

Did you ever hear of FUBAR. Yep, you got it.....Perfect blend
