Quite apart from the fact that their coffee bites and the prices are outrageous, this is just the kicker :

Actually, I like Starbucks, especially because they're as close in proximity to Barnes & Noble as Denny's is to La Quinta: always right next door.
Their foofy drinks are delicious, but way too fattening, so I always just ice down and sweeten up my own coffee.
I would be very sad if people started bringing their kids in there more often...it's usually a fairly adult-centered atmosphere in which I can dig into my newly purchased novel. Sitting outside, I can even puff on my cancer sticks. Not quite the same experience with a screamer around.

Thanks for posting this. No, they don't belong at Starbucks. Aren't there any sacred adult spaces anymore? Good God.

Anglea, I see you are from dallas. I read in the Star Telegram that a couple of women here with kids have started a coffee shop FOR parents with little kids. Can't remember the name of it but I'm sure it will catch on.

If you find out which one it is, let me know...so I can steer clear.

I didn't realize the caffeine content in Starbucks' products was so much higher than other caffeinated drinks. Kids are so much smaller, caffeine goes to their heads pretty fast. I've been to a couple of children's birthday parties, and they usually serve soda, and it isn't pretty. No one would dream of offering the kids coffee. But it looks like the times are a changing.

I have to admit that I find the whole kids with caffeine thing a bit interesting too. When I was a child, I'd sometimes ask for a sip of my parent's coffee or tea - and hated it. I don't think I actually even liked the taste until I was a teenager. Although Starbucks chai latte and "foofy drinks" (thanks Angela!) sure don't bear even a passing resemblance to my mum's coffee! They're so sweet and whipped-cream-laden they send me into a sugar frenzy at twenty paces - so I can't imagine what they'd do to a child...
Oh well, if you wanna deal with the consequences, "go ahead - make my day". Just be sure to take Junior off the streets before the caffeine hits bottom, thanks.

I fail to understand how the company can think it's their responsibility to adjust for children. I was always under the impression that it is a PARENT'S responsibility to attend to the behaviors, nutrition, and spending habits of their off-spring. I guess I was mistaken...

I just copied that same comment onto the message board for that article. I have no doubt that it will start trouble, based on the previous responses there.

Seriously, WHAT IS WRONG WITH PARENTS??? You do NOT give children coffee. It's like hearkening back to the days when EVERYONE drank beer, even children. However, that was because water quality was so bad.
This just teaches them bad habits from an even earlier age. I am not a soda drinker, it is a special treat for me. So is coffee, since I only drink the super sweet whipped creamy kind.
Kids these days are overweight. I see it every day - I would say that at least a third of the kids at the school next door are overweight in some capacity. And we are a rich neighborhood!
Now parents are showing their kids even MORE options for them to turn into fat, lazy idiots. No offense to coffee drinkers. I assume that most of you are not over-indulging.
