I would have been in the class of 1979 (marriage and babies). In my freshman year, Gerald Ford was President, we were still reeling from Watergate and Vietnam while the Miranda decision and various civil rights acts were less than ten years old with the controversy still raging. "Free love" was no longer new, Women's rights were (and still are) major issues. I read Tolkein for the first time and fell in love with a whole genre of literature while listening to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Eagles, Roberta Flack and many others.
