I always find this odd. Case in point - the catholic church. They have nuns and priests who aren't allowed to marry and certainly aren't allowed to procreate and yet, they're meant to be the people closest to "Divine". Now, call me crazy, but they're apparently not breeding (by choice) and yet God will still accept them. Isn't that slightly hypocritical?

To the contrary, we are commanded to receive children with joy as God's gifts, and to raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Hmmm....is letting the TV babysit count as nurture and admonition of the Lord, or is that only if you make them watch the religious station? But wait, they didn't have TV and computers when the Bible was written. Now wadda we do Lord?

Hypocritical? The church? No, how can it be? (For my Browncoat friends, I borrowed that from Simon in "Jaynestown.")

Maybe if someone asks me at the wedding tomorrow if I'm going to have babies I'll tell them, "no, I'm an atheist." That should make things fun (they are hard-core Catholics. They don't know that beloved Matthew is an atheist, too.)

Hello everyone! I haven't posted in a while - I've been out of town on and off for a week at a time and don't get to check in like I normally do - the Internet at the hotel is less than reliable! smile Anyway, this thread has definitely made me laugh out loud quite a bit. The idea that we can take the Bible literally in any way, shape or form today, so long after it was written (by men, incidently, who are fallible), is just ludicrous. At best, it serves as a general reminder of the things we shouldn't do - murder, steal, lie, etc. So much of it is out of date.

I just love all of the so-called Christians/religious fundamentalists that want to tell women that they have to give their bodies over to reproduction no matter what - it's not like many of them are stepping in and adopting babies/children born to unfit parents and unfortunate circumstances. We are supposed to have every baby, never aborting them, even if it takes our own lives in the process. What a lovely view of life - that life not yet born is more important than one already on the planet. Then there's the whole stem cell research issue....don't get me started! smile

Sorry I ranted....

Yay, Browncoats! Oddly enough I had a line from the same episode going through my head as I read the article. "No, THIS must be what going mad feels like."

Then I began reading the comments and laughed out loud. I'm so happy to have people like you in my corner! (And so glad not to be in the other one!)

Wow, as a child free Christian woman, this article offends me greatly. The concept that God created me only for me to pop out babies makes me very angry. He gave me a brain too, not just a uterus.

I wonder what would happen if the church started telling men the only reason they were here was to make babies. That they couldn't have sex (or do ... ahem ... anything else) for pleasure.

I think maybe we wouldn't have a church anymore.

And myrabeth ... you're my kind of geek! Lines are always running through my head. My boss is an idiot and doesn't know what he's doing most of the time, and Hermione's line from the first movie kept running through my head "what an idiot!"

Sorry! I know you're Harry Pottered out.

If stupid people want to listen to the preachings of this stupid person, so be it. I'll continue on my travels, hobbies and adventures. Good luck to those who aren't enjoying life as much in the name of a sexist religion.

Honestly, this disgusting trick of using religion and god's words as a propaganda means is way to outdated. And it's so rampant, it drives me nuts that so many people don't see it for what it is.

"Be like me and do as I say or you're going to hell!"

Who do these people think they are? Do they think they have a direct line to God?

I consider myself a Christian, yet I have no illusions that God loves me more than He loves anyone else. And I truly doubt that He loves me less simply because I chose not to become a mother.
