How do you feel good about going out in public with Acne troubles and no make up? I hate make up, but feel like I can't go out unless I have covered everything up as best I can. And even then I limit my public exposure.

I'm like you, I can't stand to be seen w/out my makeup if I've had a breakout.

I've found the mineral makeups (I use Bare Essentials) doesn't aggravate acne as much as liquid or cream makeup.

My 15 yr old son is going through the horrible teen acne right now - and he does modeling, so it's affecting a lot! I just got him the Proactive kit, because I've been reading such good things on it. But, I've got to get him to use it regularly (that 15 yr old boy thing...) It seems to be working some, but I'll know more once he actualy starts using it the way he's supposed to instead of just doing it when he has a breakout.

Please be careful with Pro Active. My son used to use it as a teenager and it ruined his skin. It has acid and bleaches your skin. Check his towels he dries his face on or check his pillow case to see if they are discolored. Proactive will do that because of the bleach. There are other options. The one I have my teens use now is natural and beneficial for their skin. It has no acid or bleach. It is from Arbonne. I wish I could send you a sample but it usually takes a couple of weeks to notice the difference.

Good luck to you.

Hey wanttalk, I really think it depends on severe your acne is. I know myself I dont feel comfortable with a major breakout, but then i'll just use spot concealer.

what products are you using now?

When I was younger I never left the house with out make up. As I got older and had kids it has to be a special occassion for me to put that stuff on. Even when I break out I am just not that concerned. lol

Proactive is plain Benzoyl Peroxide.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is commonly used for treatment of acne. It is available in many forms such as soap bars, washing lotions, creams, gels, etc. It is available both - OTC and on prescription.

Benzoyl Peroxide
Removes excess oil,
Unclogs the closed pores, and
Kills the bacteria.
You should consult with your doctor
If you have eczema, or raw skin because of sunburn, etc. Benzoyl Peroxide may cause irritation if used on such skin.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding. No studies have been done about absorption of benzoyl peroxide in the pregnancy or in the mothers milk. Let your doctor decide.
If you want to use benzoyl peroxide on a child or a very old person.
If you are using other topical that may peel or irritate the skin on the same place, where you plan to use benzoyl peroxide.
If you are allergic to any dyes, preservatives, etc.

Side-Effects:
Benzoyl Peroxide may irritate the skin and acne may flare up after you begin the use. These will go away slowly. If the irritation persists, inform your doctor.

If benzoyl peroxide produces side-effects such as skin warmth, blisters, excess peeling, etc., inform your doctor.
