Hi everyone,
My betta, Sophia, is about 2 or 3 years old. She has been living in a 46 gallon tank with one other female betta and some cories. I noticed about a month ago she was getting fat. I just assumed she was getting fat from her food. A few days ago, I noticed she has a lump on her side, right behind her fin. It didn't seem to be bothering her; she was swimming around, eating, playing with Iris (the other betta). However, last night when I fed them, I noticed she was laying on a plant near the top. She ate very little, and seemed to have some trouble swimming. (She looked more like a goldfish than a betta). I currently have her in a 5.5 heated, filtered tank (although there is no carbon in case I have to medicate). I added some aquarium salt, and betta fix. I have fish meds, but I don't know if this is treatable and if it is, what it is. I have called around to local vets, and we do have a fish vet, but he's out of town until Friday. I was planning to call my regular vet on Tuesday (since they'll probably be closed tomorrow- New Year's Day) but I'm not sure she'll last that long. Any thoughts/suggestions?
