Hi everyone,

My betta, Sophia, is about 2 or 3 years old. She has been living in a 46 gallon tank with one other female betta and some cories. I noticed about a month ago she was getting fat. I just assumed she was getting fat from her food. A few days ago, I noticed she has a lump on her side, right behind her fin. It didn't seem to be bothering her; she was swimming around, eating, playing with Iris (the other betta). However, last night when I fed them, I noticed she was laying on a plant near the top. She ate very little, and seemed to have some trouble swimming. (She looked more like a goldfish than a betta). I currently have her in a 5.5 heated, filtered tank (although there is no carbon in case I have to medicate). I added some aquarium salt, and betta fix. I have fish meds, but I don't know if this is treatable and if it is, what it is. I have called around to local vets, and we do have a fish vet, but he's out of town until Friday. I was planning to call my regular vet on Tuesday (since they'll probably be closed tomorrow- New Year's Day) but I'm not sure she'll last that long. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Right now, she is gasping for air. I put in a dose of maracyn2, since it sort of sounds like gill disease. I don't know if the tumor is related or if she has two seperate problems. I have taken some pictures, although they are not very good. I thought they may help anyway.

In this one, you can see that her gill looks very red: [url=BellaOnline ALERT: For anti-spam reasons, we restrict the number of URLs allowed in a given post. You have exceeded our maximum number of URLs.

Well I think it's worth a try. It sounds like maybe internal bacterial infection. If after using Marycn2 for the prescribed period doesn't help, switch to Parasite Clear. I'm assuming all of your water parameters are good.
