Although it's not exactly African-American literature, I'm having a signing for my first novel, TRUE BLUE FOREVER, at an African-American book store here in Mobile, Alabama, on the 30th of this month. The characters of my book attend a predominantly black high school (my real alma mater) that made national headlines in the early 70s because of the race riots that took place there, then it went on to become a model of biracial symbiosis for the other recently desegregated schools. This isn't the main focus of the plot, but the school and its history serve as a wonderfully realistic Southern setting for this nostalgic coming-of-age novel.
Just as I'm proud to have attended such a memorable high school, I'm also proud to have my book featured at this progressive store full of quality literature.
