Amazing though, that with all the species of creatures on the planet, 'Man' (purportedly at the top of the food-chain and allegedly the most intelligent[color:"red"]*) is the only creature with hang-ups....I bet wildebeest females don't think 'does my bum look big in this?' or wildebeest males wondering if they are 'man' enough....!

([color:"red"] * The jury is still out on this one....!)

Alexendra, you have a valid arguement here.
Somehow sex is taking over our life. I some times visit teenage forums and find children of very young age talking about sex and various issues related to it. The kind of questions they raise , sometimes make me wonder if they get time to study at all? Will this not lead to another downfall of civilizations?

Sex sells. Always has done, and always will...the problem is, with the influence of the media, films, computer games and simple peer pressure, children today miss out on the one vital luxury people of my age seemed to have when we were young....

....A childhood.

Little girls are dressed as minature models of britney spears, and there is no line between the fine existences of child, adolescent, teenager and adult... the edges aren't blurred... ask any 12-year-old preganant girl...the edges are simply no longer there....we used to give girls dolls that refelected their ages.... a small inmaginary companion....now they have Bratz, barbie dolls (and a new relationship with Ken seems on the cards...though I've heard he may be gay....?? WTF!? <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ) and new-born babies, complete with umbelical cord bandages.....
Whilst boys play with Lara Croft, and games of such violence on their x-boxes, we wonder why violence spills into real life....

The downfall of civilisation is constantly happening all around us...It's not in the future...It's now....

great post..seems like sex is everywhere, even in magazines in grocery stores where on the front covers of womens magazines occasionally on the front page will be advice on 20 ways to please your man and even these teen magazines have little quizes on how good a girlfriend you are...seems like the idea is to make sure the women know how to keep their men satisfied whereas if u look at any mans magazine in grocery stores they talk nothing about these topics....

yesterday I saw an advertisement on Men's innerwear with a woman model thrown in. There was no talk about why men should use that brand, except the expression of ecstasy on the woman model's face. I wonder if such advertisements really work? Do men buy a product which is advertised in such a manner?

Do women buy products whose ads have less information about the product and are filled more with such pictures? Why advertisers are not talking about utilty of the product? Is consumer really a fool? Are consumers taking logical buying decisions or getting affected by such ads? Any opinion?

Advertising is carefullu=y and cleverly design to push all the right buttons....without knowing it, virtually everything you buy at one point or another, is because someone, somewhere, might have mentioned how good it is.... and some of that hype-publicity has struck home...Not with everything, and not every time....

What irks me is that aparently, the only people who use shower gel/deodorant/shaving foam/skin cream/shampoo are obviously very attractive, a perfect size 8 with fine chiselled looks, wonderful skin and stunning good looks.....!!

Yes its so apparent that sex is becoming such a big thing for so many relationships. I'm opposed to that though. I've set myself up for online dating and i've been meeting different guys. Sex to me isn't a big thing. The important thing to me is character. Just because im on webdate doesn't mean I'm a nymph. I'm out to find the right partner. The sex can happen when he comes along.

My point of view is that sex is important because it 'was important' to begin with. Couples so frequently grow apart, and it's often sex which can be conveniently scapegoated as the reason, although I feel that a depreciated sex life is more of a symptom than a cause. When couples complain (individually or together) that their sex life is not good enough, it is at least a sign that they still care - that they want what they had (those initial feelings of being in love) back. If they can identify that that's what they're saying and communicate with one another, then I feel that they can renew their love , even if it has to be different, because life does throw experiences our way, and to try to deny them would be silly.

I agree with Jane that sex is important. But is it very important in a relationship? I have seen old couples totally incapable of having sex with each other, enjoying their relationship much better than many young couples. After watching such old couples, I realize that there are many more dimensions to a relationship.

excuse me...How do you know they are "totally incapable of having sex with each other"....?
I used to work in an old people's home,a nd some of the things they got up to, bless them, would make your hair stand on end!

Past it?
Don't you believe it!!

And whilst we're on the subject, just why is the idea of an elderly couple still enjoying a sex life, so alien to some people? When is the 'right' age to stop? Why should they?

Unless there's a definite prohibitive medical condition - heck - why not?
