Being as how I am fairly new to the world of wrestling (i.e. the last few years), I am well aware that I have missed...well, an insanely large amount. I was wondering what DVDs, if any, people may recommend for me to watch to kind of catch myself up - must-see events, wrestlers DVDs, that kind of thing.
A friend of mine recommended the Bret Hart DVD as a must-see, and when he finishes with his copy, I guess I can see if he is right... <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Also, not getting TNA down here in the land of Oz, has anyone seen any TNA PPVs that are out now on DVD that they think may be worth getting?
Thanks!

TNA Unbreakable is a pay per view that you really should get, the Three Way Match at the end is amazing. Shows what good(usually smaller) wrestlers can do when given time to work a match. WWE ones to get are probably The Road Warriors DVD that shows the days when they were a bruising tag team in old Jim Crockett promotions as well as their later WWE stuff. Also if you can get hold of it, Patty will have to say which wrestlemania it is cos i'm not to sure and can't find it, the one where Shawn Michaels vs Steve Austin with Mike Tyson as enforcer. Although there are better events this is one that is really the time that WWE turned the corner properly to more real characters and more cutting edge storylines. Not to everyones taste at the time but it certainly worked. ECW(WWE Tribute dvd) is another one that is probably a good choice. It's where WCW and WWE got a lot of their ideas from, but unfortunately for ECW they had a bigger audience to market it too. Check out utilised talent that gets wasted later on in WWE. Sorry gone on a bit, later.

Oh there are so many!
It depends on whether you are interested in just WWE stuff or learning about WCW and ECW.
I think the ECW One Night Stand DVD/video is probably one of the best for so many reasons but doesn't really represent ECW 100%. But closer than I ever imagined.
Rise and fall of ECW is awesome too. I loved ECW!
The Monday Night Wars will give you an idea of what happened to WCW but it is very slanted in WWE's favor since WWE made it. Still, WCW was a force to be reckoned with and almost kicked WWE's butt and made them go under for a year and a half.
Starracde 97 for WCW is a good one but may not be if you don't know WCW vs NWO history.
TNA has a slew of wonderful PPV videos. I think last year's Turning Point was great as were almost all of the PPVs. Tomorrow's may make history again.
As for WWE, wow, there are so many!!
I like the ones from the DX era (I was an NWO fan too in the beginning in WCW). I prefer the work of the early to later 90's to anything recent.
It depends on if you have certain workers you want to see in action or if you just want to look back at what WWE was like in the past. They changed a lot over the years, some for the better, some for the worse. Everyone has a favorite event they feel is the best. Wrestlemania 3 obviously is one that many people love but it's very dated now, obviously.
Better to rent them than buy them if you're not sure if you will like them.

Apparently they're getting a deal for TNA DVDs to be available in Australia next year (and on TV too, finally), so that should be good, I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.
I am interested in seeing more of ECW and WCW, I have seen bits and pieces, like on the Benoit and Guerrero DVDs and online. It's given me some idea of what PPVs or wrestlers I would like to have a closer look at, but any help is always good!!
Thanks for those suggestions, Patty. I'm feeling inspired!!

Getting wrestling in Indonesia is even worse!
No wrestling on TV! No DVD's.
Actually if you can afford "Indovision" cable, you do get TNA. But that's way outta my budget.
However, I do have a few recommendations
The Ric Flair DVD set - WWE (Excellent) Wreslting with Shadows - DVD made at the height of the WWE/WCW wars, and independly made. Wrestlemania III - Savage vs Steamboat. Hogan vs Andre The Bret Hart DVD sounds good. Mines on order. MOnday night Wars - Very int, read Patty's comments The rise and Fall of ECW
And now a request from me. Before Owen Hart won the "King of the Ring", it was already an Annual tournament. With winners such as Randy Savage, Tito Santana and I think even Bret. Anyway, does anyone know where I can get copies on VHS or DVD? Also the original Royal Rumble. No, not the onw that Big John Studd wins, the one before.
Cheers

I can't argue with any of those picks. They are all well worth watching.
Paul London's "Please Don't Die" video from Ring of Honor is great and Raven has some good shoot and regular videos out if you are a fan of that stuff. Many of the ECW PPVs were fabulous and you will see very familiar matches and other things that WWE stole from ECW and used as their own.
Tikus, do you want copies of KOTR PPVs from the past? Often ebay has a selection of older stuff like that. Some people have everything on tape and sell that stuff fairly cheaply.

I'm specifically after the KOTR and RR before they were PPV events. I know you can get them on video and maybe even DVD. But it's sometimes a futile process searching. I don't think ebay would have anything but the mainstream stuff. (Am I wrong? I haven't tried there).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how far they ship but I found http://www.silvervision.co.uk to be excellent for providing wrestling DVD's not that I've got a lot but they are one of the distributers over here in the UK and sell the DVD's direct some at much less than you'll pay in the shops.
