Hello everyone, I am a first time at your forum, and wanted to say how happy I am to have found a place to read others problems and find others to chat with!

I saw what other's on low-carb was doing with their weight and decided to try it myself.

On May 2nd I started and have as of today lost 17 lbs. I don't know if that is good amount or if it should have been more. I go a couple of days without loosing anything and with reading I am assuming that possibly I am not drinking enough water...so have increased my water intake to 5-6 glasses a day..hopefully will see results soon.

Hi there!

Congrads on the weight loss WOW that is alot of lbs. I remember when Oprah lost alot of weight once.... she filled a wheel barrow of lard equal to her weight loss and wheeled it up on stage really gives u a visual of all that extra stuff glued on your body.

Keep up the good work. Everyone loses differently...me it's been .5 lbs in last 9 days but I feel much thinner... sometimes I think I should just chuck the ole scale out the window and pay attention to my inches instead.

keep us posted.

Welcome

I agree, scales freak me out up, down, no change all in the space a a few days.

Belt notches, trousers (pants to you americans) and a mirror will give you a good idea of weight loss. I now have had to buy new belts and can fit into older trousers that are a whole size smaller.

Hello. I am also new to this whole LC way of life. I just started it this week (after reading various posts, etc). I am only looking to lost maybe 5 pounds or so and I'm also adding excercise into my schedule (lots of walking mainly). But I am having some difficulty and confusion.

I understand that sugars are meant to be limited but to what extent? And how strict do I need to be in the early part of this program if my weight loss goal is relatively low?

I ask because I have been limiting my sugars greatly (a huge change for me) and find myself having a shakey, sluggish, low blood sugar feeling a lot of the time. I am still drinking a glass of dry white wine a day and an occasional yogurt. I felt so low last night (after a full meal of veggies, tomatos, and cheeses) that I ate a small piece of chocolate and I swear I could feel the sugar rushing through my veins and bringing me back to life. Am I simply feeling the effects of a sugar withdrawl (and it will pass)? Or am I doing something wrong?

(I am otherwise eating a lot of fish, veggies, eggs, and soy products)

Any advice?

I have a lot of advice on the website about breaking that sugar addiction. If you are eating regularly you should NOT be tired and such because you are getting a steady flow of nutrients into you. When you eat high-sugar things you give yourself a *short* burst of energy followed shortly by a crash. So then you have more sugar to prevent the crash and now you're inhaling sugar and damaging your health.

Your metabolism is meant NOT to get all this sugar we have in a modern diet. So you have to break the addiction and get yourself onto a more normal flow of nutrients and energy, a steady keel.

You should never have to eat sugar on purpose There's plenty in the food you eat. Make sure you drink lots of water, eat until you're full and eat a healthy mix of foods. Exercise is of course important! With only 5 pounds to lose, you shouldn't be restricting yourself from say 'sweet veggies', but things like soda or chocolate ice cream are never really options. So if you eat healthy grains, healthy veggies, i.e. eat how a 'lifetime low carber' would eat, you should be fine. You shouldn't have to go to the more strict levels that those with lots of weight to lose are at.
