Hey all. New member here! Saw your forum whilst browsing the net, and it
I've been making CP and OHP soap for almost 4 years now (on my own, that is. *grin* I have helped my Granny make homemade soap for years when I was growing up.)

I would love to hear from the other soapers in this forum! What kind of soaps do you like to make? Also, what other interests do you have? I raise Mini Rex rabbits as well, and used to raise Pygmy goats and a few dairy goats (poultry too). I also enjoy making a few candles every so often, decoupage, crochet, etc etc. And I have a new grandson! Woo Hoo! LOL. Nice to meet you all (in advance!).

Bunny

Hi, CapriLepid Bunny!

I don't make homemade soap myself, but my sister does and I consume it greedily. Her lemon-ginger soap is one of my faves. She's working on ways to naturally color her soaps without chemical dyes.

Actually, I'm experimenting with some Japanese folk recipes where you wash with rice bran and ground azuki beans. It takes a bit of prep, but is very mild and highly moisturizing.

Welcome to the community. Take some time and check out the various boards. I'm sure the pet groups would love to hear about all your great animals!

Hi Bunny! Nice to see you here! I'm Jodi, the host of the soapmaking site here at BellaOnline!
I love making soap! One of my FAVE things to do!
Other interests?? Hmmm, I don't think I really have any! LOL I'm a single mom to three kids, I should be working full time outside of the home but I just lost my job, so add soaping to the mix and there's not a whole lot of time for anything else. :-)
Hey, got anything you'd like to see article wise?
Jodi

Hi, there...

I don't know anything about making soap, although I'd like to learn about it because I do love nicely scented soaps.

Also, do you have any suggestions for how children can get involved? Maybe it's something they can do now that summer's out? How old should they be in order for them to be able to do it safely?

Well, Sonja, you're in the right place for learning! LOL
As for projects that can be done with kids. There are really tons. i do CP soaping with my 9 year old. He's only not allowed to stir the lye water or pour the lye water into the oils. once it's mixed in nice and good, I even let him stir the raw soap. Of course, we've been making soap over here for quite a while, so he knows what he's doing.
For a family just starting out, I'd suggest Melt and Pour. On my site, Under Soap Bases, there's many places where you can get M & P bases and molds, most of them even tell you where they're located, to save you on shipping charges.
Melt and Pour is as easy as it sounds. Melt the base in the microwave, add your color, botanicals, scent, or even other oils, if you choose, and pour into the mold.Viola! done! :-)
i'd say a melt and pour project is good for children 5 and up. however, when we're making for my three year old, i let him choose the mold and scent. I'd let him pick the color too, except he doesn't know colors. :-)

Bunny, I'm so happy to see someone I "know" on here. I, like you, was surfing for a board, and found this one. So like you, I'm new here.

Congratulations on your new grandbaby. Isn't being a grandma more fun than being a parent?

I hope you'll be telling some of your great stories on this board. I've really missed what you have to say and the way you say it.
