Oh yes - I think you're right about it working with Native American designs, Phyllis! I've seen a number of quill work pieces that rely on the voided technique for their design.
I always have way too many ideas and not enough time to stitch! And every time I sit down to stitch, I seem to get distracted! (usually by research into historical forms or designs).
