Yes you are absolutley right about trial and error. Although, may I suggest Pantene leave in conditioner. It does not weigh the hair down, keeps it soft and is not greasy. It is a spray and my whole family uses it. We love what it does to our hair.

Also realize that even though it is a leave in conditioner no matter the type your hair will need to be washed at least once a week. What happens is the conditioner does it's part but the hair oils and sebrum builds up.

It also has a nice fresh smell, not over powering.

Try it and see what happens. If you don't use any chemicals or heat but just want a good leave in conditioner Patene is the best I think.
