I have what they refer to as a large "s" pattern. I have not used a hot iron, perm, texturizer or blow-dryer in about 10-12 years. The texture of my hair is soft, fine and after a wash appears straight.
I did not learn about my hair untill I went to a salon in a large chain department store. The ladies there only colored my hair and wraped it to style. Perms dried my hair and kept the edges broke off as did blow drying. Because of the chemical process involved one has to really treat the hair . Hot oil treatments and conditioning.
In my kitchen,I have been using an inexpensive shampoo. However, I condition with "elucence" although I prefer a nice leave-in. I have yet to find a leave in that works for me. Looks like they took many off the shelf.
"At One" made a leave in conditioner I use to use. I worked good for my hair but left an rancid smell after a couple of days. Whew ! . I now use a little "almond oil" that I picked up at the health food store between washings. This will work till I find the leave in for me.
I imagine with all hair textures and styles it is trial and error. Along with a little give and take here and there for the most part.
