One of the first things that popped into my head is "baggage".
Could it be that you have either left "unfinished business" in either emotional or actual physical locations (such as a relationship/s in the former or an actual physical move in the latter--or job move, etc.) and perhaps you're holding onto the "stuff"? When a crisis or stress happens (bomb, being chased) this baggage issue becomes a problem and you feel you have to deal with it...which irritates you.
Could you be holding on to beliefs, attitudes, or other "baggage" that is keeping you from being fully in the moment...where you're finding yourself? If something were to occur and you didn't have to pack your "stuff", you could deal with it much lighter and quicker.
