Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero, married since 2006, will appear together onscreen in "The Estate", which is now in post-production. Redgrave and Nero play an elderly aristocratic couple drowning in debt and at risk of losing their ancestral home. Written and directed by their son, Carlo Gabriel Nero, the pic is described as a social thriller. Questions of class and privilege mix with the appearance of ghostly apparitions. Redgrave is 87-years-old and Nero is 82-years-old. Neither actor is letting age slow down their productivity. Redgrave currently has six projects in the pipeline while Nero has an astonishing 19 films upcoming in which he either does voice-overs or appears onscreen.
There is not yet an announced release date for "The Estate". In the meantime...I recommend viewing Nero co-starring with Helen Mirren in "Painted Lady". The film is a two-part series that aired on PBS in the late-90s. Mirren plays a washed-up blues singer who masquerades as a Polish countess. She infiltrates the exclusive London art scene in order to catch the thieves who murdered her patron and friend. Nero plays a charismatic and mysterious art aficionado with deep pockets. Lesley Manville, whose "Moonflower Murders" is currently showing on PBS, plays Mirren's sister. The cast and production design are top-notch.
