.10 The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft had been to asteroid 101955 Bennu. It didn't land, but dropped off its sample return capsule into the Utah desert. The spacecraft continued on to a new mission to explore asteroid Apophis. [Image: NASA/Keegan Barber][Text[APOD] In the photo, the sample return capsule rests in desert on planet Earth, near Salt Lake City. It looks charred from the extreme temperatures experienced during its blistering descent through Earth's dense atmosphere. Back from Bennu

.11 Diffuse starlight and dark nebulae along the southern Milky Way arc over the horizon. A breath-taking mosaic spans a wide 100 degrees, with the rugged terrain of Patagonia, Argentina in the foreground. Besides the Milky Way, there are two small cloudlike galaxies on the far right. They are the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, satellites of our Milky Way. [Credit and Copyright: Miloslav Druckmuller (Brno University of Technology][APOD] In addition to a sky full of stars, Comet McNaught - the Great Comet of 2007 - is a splendid sight. .12Paolo Palma thinks it's fun to scribble on the canvas of the night sky. He uses a creative photographic technique to make the light of point-like stars dance across a digital image by tapping lightly on the telescope while making an exposure. The result: a squiggly line traced by the star – or two squiggles for binary stars. And the result reveals the star's color. He calls the lines Ghirigori. [Image credit and copyright: Paolo Palma][APOD]Palma's artistic mosaic of 25 stars was made from stars found in the northern sky constellations Bootes, Corona Borealis, Ophiucus, and Coma Berenices. Temperature determines the color of a star. Whitish stars tend to be close to the Sun's temperature. Stars with bluer hues are hotter. Yellow and red colors are cooler than the Sun. .13 Durdle Door is one of Dorset, England's most photographed and iconic landmarks. It's part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. A magnificent natural limestone arch was formed when the power of the waves eroded the rock and forged a hole through the middle. The name Durdle is derived from an old English word ‘thirl’, which means to pierce, bore or drill. [Credit: Jack Lodge] A keen photographer, Jack Lodge had tried for several years to photograph the arch to capture what's often called the "sunstar". It's an effect of the sunrise coming through the Durdle. This effect is only possible for a few weeks in winter, and of course, also needs unclouded sunrise. Durdle Door 'sunstar'

.14Comet Neowise was discovered in late March 2020 and became one of the few comets in the 21st century that could be seen with the naked eye as it approached the Sun. In the prize-winning photo of James Rushforth, Neowise was seen over Stonehenge in England. [British Photography Awards]Stonehenge didn't exist when the comet last passed the Earth. It's due to return in around 6,800 years. Rushforth notes, "The orange glow is light pollution from the nearby villages of Durrington and Larkhill, and a passing lorry very kindly painted the rocks with light." Comet Neowise over Stonehenge

.15 In an annular solar eclipse, the Moon doesn't quite cover the Sun, so there's a fiery ring around the Moon. A rare annular eclipse would be visible at Lake Abert in Oregon, so that's where Jerry, Amber and their photographer friend Baolong Chen went. (There wouldn't be another annular eclipse in the USA for 16 years!) Amber and her boyfriend would appear in front of the eclipse in silhouette, sometimes alone, and sometimes together. [Image credit and copyright: Jerry Zhang (left), Baolong Chen (photographer) & Amber Zhang (right)][APOD]They knew that the annular phase of this eclipse would last only a few minutes, so there were many hours of planning. On the day, Amber could see their friend who set up the camera about 400 meters away at the bottom of a ridge. What she didn't know was the question she would be asked. But she did know the answer: "yes". [Maybe I should have saved this for Valentine's Day.]Eclipse Rings

.16 The Butterfly Nebula (NGC 6302) is a spectacular planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius. It got its nickname from the two prominent lobes that make it look like a butterfly. A planetary nebula is created by the mass ejections of a dying star on the way to becoming a white dwarf. [Credit: NASA, ESA and J. Kastner (RIT)] This image includes ultraviolet, visible, and infrared observations taken in 2019 and 2020 by Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3. This level of detail even made it possible, at last, to spot the star. It had been hidden by dust and by radiation in the ultraviolet. The star is one of the hottest known at 200,000 Kelvin. The original mass of the star would have been even greater. (Our Sun's surface is less than 6000 K.) Butterfly Nebula

.17 Some 1500 light-years distant, embedded in the Orion cloud complex, is the Horsehead Nebula. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer Williamina Fleming in 1888 on a photographic plate taken at the Harvard College Observatory. However, this dark cloud is cataloged as Barnard 33 and is visible only because its obscuring dust is silhouetted against the glowing red emission nebula IC 434. [Image credit & copyright: Mark Hanson & Martin Pugh, SSRO, PROMPT, CTIO, NSF][APOD] Contrasting blue reflection nebula NGC 2023, surrounding a hot, young star, is at the lower left of the full image. The featured gorgeous color image combines both narrowband and broadband images recorded using several different telescopes. The Horsehead Nebula

.18 Mark Gee is an international award winning photographer and visual effects supervisor based in Wellington, New Zealand. He specializes in astrophotography and time-lapse. [Image credit & copyright: Mark Gee] It's unusual to see aurorau in New Zealand. However there were a few months of skies filled with the aurora australis. This photograph was taken off the coast of Wellington. Aurora Australis

.19 Ringed ice giant Neptune lies near the center of this sharp near-infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope. The dim and distant world is the farthest planet from the Sun, about 30 times farther away than Earth. [Image credit : NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, NIRCam][APOD]The planet's dark and ghostly appearance is due to atmospheric methane absorbing infrared light. But high altitude clouds stand out above most of the absorbing methane. Coated with frozen nitrogen, Neptune's moon Triton is brighter than Neptune in reflected sunlight and showing diffraction spikes. Including Triton, seven of Neptune's 14 moons are in the field of view. Neptune's faint rings are striking. The complex ring system is seen here for the first time since Neptune was visited by the Voyager 2 spacecraft in August 1989. Ringed Ice Giant Neptune
