SAINT OF THE DAY St. Thomas More was a lawyer and a part of King Henry VIII’s royal court in 16th-century England. Thomas received a classical education and seriously discerned religious life, however he obeyed his father’s wishes and became a lawyer, husband, and father. When King Henry VIII defied the pope and started the Church of England, Thomas refused to take an oath of loyalty. He was charged with treason and executed.
