yes, they are a serious problem. They break down into micro sizes and animals eat them and we eat the animals. One of my friends collected plastic bags/sheets for a buddy bench. It took 500 lbs. that is a lot of plastic. And some of those bags are not recyclable. When they are coated you can not recycle the same way. I wish I had a better understanding how recycling the stuff works.

I receive a recycling newsletter. There was a mention about "crisp packets" and I had to google what are crisp packets. I guess it is the chip packages and packages like that - it seems they are light weight aluminum but coated in plastic for durability. As a result, the bags are not recyclable.

Packages that can be heated in the microwave (veggies that are microwavable in their packaging) cannot be recycled.

Check the package to be sure. You don't want to contaminate the recycle bin.
