Great pictures, Angie. Thanks for sharing. I wonder if he's entered anything in the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition.

The Cosmic Pursuits Newsletter - June 2022

Here's some of what's featured this month.

1. What to see in the Night Sky This Month.

2. Summer arrives in the northern hemisphere and plenty of sunshine greets us after a long winter. But the Sun itself is about to get interesting as it embarks on another 11-year-long cycle that brings more sunspots, flares, and magnetic activity. This month's observing article: the Sun awakens.

3. The 'Everything Everywhere' podcast explains how a star is born.

4. Well at least something went well this month - initial tests of the James Webb Space Telescope show an astonishing degree of image resolution in the mid-infrared. The discoveries will soon start pouring out of this telescope like a fire hose.

5. The dean of astronomy writers, Timothy Ferris, has two new short 'Rocky Hill Lectures' this month, one about 'the multiverse' and another about the prospects for time travel.

6. A fascinating think piece, worth the time: How to improve the search for alien life in the galaxy.

The nights are getting longer now that we've turned the clocks back and are heading for the solstice. But there's plenty to see in the November skies.

Brian Ventrudo produces Cosmic Pursuits, and let's us know what's up in the sky this month.

What's up in the December skies? Quite a lot, says Brian Ventudo in Cosmic Pursuits.

As 2022 comes to and end, all five bright planets are visible in the evening sky. Mars steals the show, however, as it reaches its first opposition in more than two years and, almost simultaneously, undergoes a lunar occultation for observers in North America and Europe. And the Geminid meteor shower arrives a week before the December solstice. Here's what to see in the Night Sky This Month.

The first month of 2023 brings planets galore, a modest meteor shower, dazzling constellations, and for a lucky few, another lunar occultation of Mars. Grab your scope and star maps - here's what to see in the Night Sky This Month.

Sky & Telescope have a treat for you . . .

What's Up in the Spring Sky? (A Free, Virtual Lecture)
April 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT
Registration Required. Go to: https://bit.ly/SpringSkyTalk

Each Spring, we see nature's changes all around us as trees blossom, birds migrate, and animals revive from winter's slumber. The origin of all these changes is up in the sky, as the Sun returns to the northern hemisphere, making our days longer and warmer. We'll explore the way this happens and the ceremonies people celebrate to mark the beginning of Spring. We will also find out about the planets, constellations and meteor showers visible during this season, as well as hear the latest news about the James Webb Space Telescope.

Hamptons Observatory Senior Educator, William Francis Taylor, has been a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador since 2014, lecturing about the universe around us and sharing his love of the heavens by giving guided tours of the sky through telescopes. He is a local tutor and a life-long East End resident.

Check your time zone. Some of us aren't going to stay up that late.

Cosmic Pursuits newsletter for July

What to see in the sky this month.
All five bright planets make an appearance this month, with Venus, Mars, and Mercury in the evening sky and Jupiter and Saturn in the eastern sky before dawn. The Full Buck Moon arrives. And don't forget to look for a long, lingering meteor shower through the end of July, one of the better meteor showers of the year.
