The first Grand Slam of 2016 is underway Down Under. Is anyone going to watch? Any favorites players you like? There have already been some early upsets. What do you think will be the biggest news of this fortnight?

My biggest disappointment is that Roger Federer failed to reach the finals this year. Maybe he should start playing doubles tennis with Novak Djokovic!

Federer is playing good enough to win another Grand Slam but will need a favorable draw. It's truly amazing that he continues to compete as an elite athlete and one of the best players in the world at age 34.

I agree. I think Wimbledon will probably offer Federer the best chance at another Grand Slam title. What about Rafa Nadal's 1st round defeat at the Australian Open? He seems to have suffered a complete loss of confidence.

It was just announced today that Federer suffered a knee injury the day after losing at the Australian Open. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in Switzerland and will miss at least one month of tennis, and has already cancelled his appearances at two tournaments.

Timing of that injury is unfortunate. They say recovery can be quick, especially for professional athletes, but still at his age it will be a setback. Hopefully he can come back strong for Wimbledon.

I don't begrudge the young German girl's Women's Singles title; I'm almost always on the side of the underdog in any sport. But part of me is sorry Serena didn't win. She's a very gracious person, in my observation, and surprisingly graceful on court. Yes, she's a tank of a woman, and my wife laughs at me for calling her graceful, but she's wonderfully light on her feet. The final was a great match to watch, I have to say.
