Hmmm. Not much current interest in human rights; that's a shame. Actually, it seems to me that Human Rights has been a passing phase. Surely it's dead in the water, today (and maybe dead in the grave, even) - judging by the popularity of foreign wars by the citizens of the very nations that pushed through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the United Nations in 1948. Eleanor Roosevelt is a major hero of mine for her work on the issue. Yet too few respect the principle she espoused - namely, that human rights trump civil rights. The latter are tribal rights, pretty much, and not applicable to foreigners. Anybody else interested in getting a conversation going on the subject?
