The autumnal equinox is the beginning of autumn. Soon the leaves will turn and the days and nights become crisper. The equinox was celebrated by the earliest known civilizations and it continues to be so in many places. One of the biggest celebrations is the Chinese Moon Festival. Autumnal Equinox

I so enjoyed this article, Mona. Great information and well-written. I would love to visit that moon-viewing pavilion -- or have one of my own. How delightful would that be?

The autumnal equinox falls on Sunday September 22 in the northern hemisphere. This is the official end of summer and the days will keep getting shorter. But if you're in the southern hemisphere, you'll have the spring equinox on Sunday and will be on the way to leaving winter behind. Autumnal Equinox

The time of the autumnal equinox is also the time of a Chinese Moon festival. This year there is definitely a Moon goddess and her pet to add to the festivities. A Chinese lander and lunar rover arrived last December. Although the rover (Jade Rabbit) is no longer getting around, it is still collecting data. This thread has lots more about Chang'e and Yutu.
